Juan Soto LF | NYM
Yankees' Juan Soto: Scratched from lineup
Soto (knee) was removed from Friday's lineup against Oakland, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Soto suffered a knee injury in Thursday's game against Seattle after crashing into the wall in the seventh inning. X-rays came back negative, and he was poised to return to the lineup Friday, but he's been removed due to soreness and swelling in the affected knee. Aaron Judge will shift to right field with Soto out, and Trent Grisham will enter the lineup to start in center.

Jordyn Adams CF | MIL
Angels' Jordyn Adams: Scratched Friday
Adams was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game versus Houston due to right knee soreness, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
The severity of Adams' injury remains unknown, but it's apparently bothering him enough to warrant a day off Friday. Kevin Pillar will step in to serve as the Angels' center fielder and bat fourth.

Liam Hendriks RP | CHC
Red Sox's Liam Hendriks: Unlikely to pitch this season
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Hendriks (elbow) is likely to be shut down for the rest of the regular season, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Hendriks has been on the shelf all season while recovering from Tommy John surgery performed last August. He began a rehab assignment in mid-August, and it looked like the 35-year-old reliever was poised to join the Red Sox bullpen in early September until he suffered a setback. There was still some hope that he would be able to return after receiving a cortisone injection in his right elbow Monday, but Cora relayed Friday that Hendriks hasn't played catch since getting the shot. With just nine games left in the regular season, it appears the veteran reliever will have to wait until 2025 to make his debut in a Red Sox uniform.

Juan Soto LF | NYM
Yankees' Juan Soto: In Friday's lineup
Soto (knee) will start in right field and bat second Friday against the Athletics.
X-rays on Soto's left knee came back negative after he crashed into the outfield wall during Thursday's contest, and he appears to be feeling well enough to return to the field for Friday's series opener. Since the start of September, the 25-year-old is slashing .241/.405/.448 with three homers and seven RBI across 74 plate appearances, and he'll have a favorable matchup Friday against right-hander J.T. Ginn, who owns a 4.94 ERA on the season.

Vaughn Grissom 1B | LAA
Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Recalled from Worcester
The Red Sox recalled Grissom from Triple-A Worcester on Friday.
Grissom will take the spot on the 28-man roster vacated by Rob Refsnyder, who was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right forearm strain. Since being optioned to Worcester on Aug. 8 after being reinstated from the IL, Grissom has slashed .269/.407/.417 with five home runs and 24 RBI across 137 minor-league plate appearances. In the majors, he's slashing .148/.207/.160 with three RBI over 87 plate appearances.

Rob Refsnyder DH | SEA
Red Sox's Rob Refsnyder: Lands on injured list
The Red Sox placed Refsnyder on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right forearm strain, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Refsnyder hasn't started a game since wrist discomfort caused him to be a late scratch from the lineup Sept. 12, though he was able to appear as a pinch hitter during Thursday's loss to Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old outfielder's placement on the injured list will put an early end to his 2024 campaign. He has a .283/.359/.471 slash line alongside 11 homers and 40 RBI across 306 plate appearances, and Vaughn Grissom will come up from the minors to fill his spot on the active roster.

Victor Robles RF | SEA
Mariners' Victor Robles: Back in lineup Friday
Robles (hand) is starting in right field and batting in the leadoff spot for Friday's game against Texas.
Robles was set to return from a two-game absence Thursday against the Yankees due to a right hand contusion, but he was a late scratch. He'll rejoin the starting lineup for the series opener and face Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom.

Miguel Vargas 3B | CHW
White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Not starting Friday
Vargas isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game versus San Diego.
After going 1-for-11 with an RBI during Chicago's last series against the Angels, Vargas will get a breather to begin the Sox's three-game set with the Padres. While he rests, Bryan Ramos will handle the hot corner and bat eighth.

Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Idle versus lefty
O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup Friday against the Tigers.
With southpaw Tyler Holton set to open Friday's contest for Detroit, the lefty-hitting O'Hearn will take a seat on the bench. While he rests, Coby Mayo will pick up a start at first base and bat seventh.
