Scherzer (back/thumb) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Monday in the Blue Jays' series opener versus the Nationals in Washington, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

After tossing five shutout innings in his rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Scherzer has been cleared to join the big club for the his first appearance since June 10. The 41-year-old has endured an injury-riddled 2026, making just six starts before landing on the IL due to back spasms before later requiring three cortisone injections to relieve discomfort in his thumb. Over 22 innings at the big -league level, Scherzer has posted a 10.23 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB.

Gausman (4-10) took the loss Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out six.

While Gausman was stuck with his sixth loss in his last seven starts, it was a step in the right direction for the right-hander, as he gave up five runs (four earned) across just 3.1 innings in his last outing against Tampa Bay. Overall, Gausman sports a 4.51 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 123:35 K:BB across 22 starts (121.2 innings) this season. He'll look to get into the win column for the first time since May 22 in his next outing, tentatively scheduled to come next weekend at home against the Cardinals.

Suarez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing four hits and no walks across four scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Suarez was limited to 64 pitches in his first start since July 5, though the left-hander was sharp, as he held Toronto scoreless across four innings. Overall, Suarez is 4-3 with a 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 103:26 K:BB across 18 starts (95.1 innings) this season. He's tentatively in line to face the Dodgers on the road his next time out.

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The left-handed-hitting Lowe will take a seat for the third straight game and for the second straight matchup versus a left-handed starter (Carson Whisenhunt). Though he appeared to have a grasp on the primary left-field job, Lowe may have moved into more of a committee with Wade Meckler and Jose Siri after falling into a 5-for-32 (.156 average) skid at the plate over his last 11 games.

The Mariners optioned Davila to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

Davila allowed a run over 1.1 innings during Saturday's game against the Rangers and will now head to Triple-A in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. The 27-year-old rookie has a 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 22.2 innings this year, though his 9:11 K:BB paints a less-encouraging outlook of his performance.

The Mariners recalled Hoppe from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The rookie right-hander has spent the past month in the minors but will rejoin the Mariners ahead of Sunday's series finale at Texas. Hoppe has a 6.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB across 24 innings in the majors this year.

The Astros optioned Teng to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Teng was activated from the injured list in mid-July after missing a few weeks due to a knee sprain, but Houston elected to demote him after just two appearances, during which he gave up two runs on three hits with a 4:2 K:BB and four hit batsmen across 4.1 innings. The right-hander pitched to a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 through his first 17 outings of the year, but he has a 6.89 ERA across his past eight appearances (31.1 innings).

Messick (8-6) took the loss Sunday against the Rays, allowing a run on six hits and no walks over 7.2 innings. He struck out six.

Messick was excellent Sunday, holding the Rays to a lone run on a Cedric Mullins squeeze bunt, though that proved enough to stick the left-hander with the loss as the Guardians were stymied by Drew Rasmussen in an eventual 1-0 defeat. Messick has held opponents to a lone earned run in each of his last four starts, lowering his ERA to 2.59 with a 1.04 WHIP and 122:36 K:BB across 21 outings (125.1 innings) this season. He's currently slated to face the Diamondbacks at home his next time out.

Baker earned the save in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Guardians, tallying a strikeout and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning.

Baker is up to 28 saves (in 31 chances) this season, good for the second most in the majors. The right-hander has been stellar of late, allowing just one run in his last 22 innings. Baker's ERA now sits at a sparkling 1.56 across 40.1 innings this season with a 0.84 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB.

The Astros recalled Ullola from Triple-A Sugar Land prior to Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Houston demoted Kai-Wei Teng to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Ullola, who will join the big club for the second time this season after striking out seven over four scoreless innings in two appearances during his first stint in the majors. Ullola had earned his way back to Houston after striking out nine over 5.1 perfect innings in his last six relief outings at Sugar Land.
