  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Remains out of lineup

Neto (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Neto will miss a second consecutive game due to a right shoulder injury he sustained Thursday against the White Sox. It's unclear whether Neto will also be held out of the Angels' regular-season finale Sunday. Jack Lopez will start at shortstop Saturday and bat second.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Roughed up by Rays

Crawford (9-16) took the loss Saturday against the Rays, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six over 4.1 innings.

Crawford tied a season high in runs allowed, and it's his seventh time this year allowing five earned runs or more. Crawford entered the break with a 3.00 ERA over 114 innings, but after that he had a 6.59 ERA over his last 69.2 innings. Overall, the 28-year-old made 33 starts this season and will finish with a 4.36 ERA.

  • Corbin Burnes SP | ARI

Orioles' Corbin Burnes: Named Game 1 starter

Burnes will start Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series for the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

After he turned in a 2.92 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 32 starts, the decision to send Burnes to the mound for Game 1 is a no-brainer. Baltimore still doesn't know who it will be facing to begin its playoff run, but the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner is a safe bet to put on a strong performance in his first postseason appearance as an Oriole no matter who his opponent is.

  • Shane Baz SP | BAL

Rays' Shane Baz: Picks up fourth win

Baz (4-3) got the win Saturday against the Red Sox. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.

Baz closed out the season with another strong outing, and he ends his 2024 campaign with six quality starts his final eight turns. The 25-year-old made a successful return from Tommy John surgery this season with a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 14 starts. Baz finished on a tear with a 2.34 ERA and 0.82 ERA in his last 50 innings.

  • Will Warren SP | NYY

Yankees' Will Warren: Sent back to minors

The Yankees optioned Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Saturday's game versus Pittsburgh.

  • Bryce Miller SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Done for season

The Mariners placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to a blister on his right index finger.

In his last appearance Monday against the Astros, Miller picked up his final win of the season as he allowed two hits and two walks while striking out five over seven scoreless innings. The 26-year-old right-hander ended the year strong with four quality starts in a row, and in 12 games after the All-Star break, he posted a 1.89 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 73:16 K:BB over 71.1 innings. Miller will finish the 2024 regular season with a 12-8 record over 31 starts with a 2.94 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 171:45 K:BB across 180.1 innings. • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: May begin activity Sunday

Manager Joe Espada said Saturday that Alvarez (knee) could resume baseball activities Sunday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

The skipper didn't specify what exactly Alvarez will be doing, but the fact Alvarez is nearing a return to activity is a good sign that his sprained knee is trending in the right direction. Once the 27-year-old slugger is able to test out his knee, the team may have a better idea of whether he'll be ready for the start of the AL Wild Card Series.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Recalled from Tacoma

The Mariners recalled Hancock from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.

Hancock has been recalled ahead of his start Saturday against the Athletics. He made his last start with the Mariners on Sept. 21 against the Rangers, when he allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three across five innings. Across 11 major-league outings this season, Hancock has a 4-4 record with a 4.72 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB across 55.1 innings.
