Lorenzen (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 5.1 innings Tuesday against the Brewers. He struck out seven.

It was a mixed bag for Lorenzen, who did fan seven but also served up a solo homer to Eric Haase in the third inning. The right-hander worked into the sixth frame but watched Rhys Hoskins drive in a run on a single before he was lifted for Sam Long, who allowed one of Lorenzen's inherited runners to score. The veteran righty is next slated to take the mound early next week at home against Minnesota.

Eovaldi (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out eight in a complete game shutout win over the Reds on Tuesday.

Eovaldi was remarkably efficient Tuesday, firing 70 of 99 pitches for strikes en route to the first Maddux of the 2025 MLB season. He retired the first 12 batters he faced and did not allow an extra-base hit. Eovaldi generated 18 whiffs, including 10 against his splitter. The veteran righty has been terrific so far, posting a 17:0 K:BB with a 1.20 ERA across 15 frames. Eovaldi will look to keep the momentum going in his next start, which is lined up to be next week against the Cubs in Chicago.

Thomas isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

After a 3-for-17 start to the season, Thomas will get a chance to regroup Tuesday while Daniel Schneemann starts in center field.

The Mariners recalled Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

With Jorge Polanco away on paternity leave, the Mariners will call up Rivas to give the team additional infield depth for the next several days. The 27-year-old turned in a .607 OPS in 86 plate appearances with the M's last season but has already blasted two home runs in three Triple-A games this year.

The Mariners placed Polanco on the paternity list Tuesday.

Polanco will be allowed to miss up to three games while he spends time with his growing family. Miles Mastrobuoni will cover third base Tuesday, and Leo Rivas will come up from the minors to fill the open roster spot.

McCullers (forearm) will make a rehab start at Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

McCullers will move down a level after making his first rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Sugar Land, during which he gave up two earned runs over two innings while throwing 35 pitches. The 31-year-old may look to tack on another inning to his workload during his upcoming Double-A start as he works toward appearing in his first MLB game in more than two years.

The Mariners selected Diaz 's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Seattle optioned right-hander Emerson Hancock to Triple-A in a corresponding move, creating an opening in the rotation until George Kirby (shoulder) is ready to return from the injured list. Though Diaz will give the Mariners a fresh arm out of the bullpen in the short term, he could be a candidate to fill the vacant rotation spot if he's had sufficient rest by the time Seattle next requires a fifth starter. Diaz previously started in 23 of his 24 appearances for Tacoma in 2024, logging a 4.73 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 120:54 K:BB over 118 innings.

The Mariners optioned Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Hancock couldn't make it out of the first inning during his season debut Monday, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits and a walk while recording just two outs en route to taking a loss to the Tigers. He'll now head to Triple-A in order to right the ship. Seattle called up Jhonathan Diaz from Tacoma in a corresponding move, and while he'll provide depth in the bullpen in the short term, he could be a candidate to fill the vacant spot in the rotation when Seattle next requires a fifth starter.

Amaya is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.

Amaya collected a hit Opening Day but will sit Tuesday after going 0-for-8 with a stolen base, a run and two strikeouts in the past three games. Brooks Baldwin will take over at shortstop and bat seventh.

Polanco is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Tigers.

Polanco isn't dealing with any known injury, but this is the second time in the last three days that his name has been missing from the lineup. Miles Mastrobuoni will start at third base and bat eighth for the Mariners on Tuesday.
