Pederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Pederson will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Cubs send another lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the mound. With Pederson on the bench, Jonah Heim will get a day off from catching duties and will serve as the Rangers' designated hitter.

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Cubs are sending a tough southpaw (Shota Imanaga) to the hill for the series finale, so the lefty-hitting Smith will retreat to the bench. Though Smith no longer has a path to regular playing time at third base with Josh Jung (neck) returning from the injured list earlier this week, Smith could see action in left field if Wyatt Langford requires a stint on the IL after tweaking his oblique Tuesday.

Langford (oblique) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Langford was removed from Tuesday's 10-6 loss with right oblique tightness. The Rangers haven't provided an update from the MRI that Langford underwent on his side, so it's not yet known whether he'll require a trip to the injured list. Kevin Pillar will start in left field and bat seventh for the Rangers on Wednesday.

The Orioles recalled Selby from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Selby has made 26 appearances at the big-league level over the previous two seasons, collecting a 7.55 ERA and 35:19 K:BB over 31 frames. The right-hander tossed three scoreless innings in his first three outings with Norfolk and will provide manager Brandon Hyde with a fresh bullpen arm.

The Orioles placed Eflin (lat) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Eflin was removed from his start Monday in Arizona with what the team initially referred to as shoulder fatigue, but an MRI revealed a low-grade lat strain. A timetable for Eflin will become clearer after he is cleared to throw, but he'll be shut down from activity for at least one week and will spend beyond the minimum 15 days on the IL.

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Guenther, who was placed on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list March 28 due to lumbar spine inflammation, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Detroit optioned Guenther to Triple-A on March 17 after he failed to secure a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, but he wasn't known to be dealing with an injury until Toledo deactivated him to begin the season. While the fact that he's in line to step back on the mound Friday suggests he's making progress in his recovery, the reliever probably won't be ready to make his season debut for Toledo until late April at the soonest.

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Flores (shoulder) is playing catch daily but has yet to advance to completing bullpen sessions in his throwing program, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Flores didn't pitch at all in spring training after he received a platelet-rich plasma injection shortly after reporting to camp to alleviate soreness in his right shoulder. After being moved off Detroit's 40-man roster in the offseason, Flores will need to return to full health and perform well in the upper levels of the minors before popping back up on the radar for a call-up.

Mattison (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Mattison is ready to face hitters as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old has yet to pitch in the majors, but he's on the 40-man roster and could be an option for the Tigers' bullpen by June or so.

Serven (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Serven has been cleared for game action after suffering a left oblique strain in early March. He will eventually be assigned to Triple-A Toledo, where he'll offer catching depth.

Vanasco has been working his way back from offseason hip surgery but is finally ready to pitch in games. The right-hander is not on the 40-man roster and will eventually be assigned to Triple-A Toledo, where he'll provide relief depth.
