Carpenter (hamstring) is not in Monday's lineup versus the Padres but is not expected to need a stint on the 10-day injured list, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

It's possible Carpenter's status changes if he doesn't recover as quickly as hoped from right hamstring soreness, but for now the Tigers believe he's well enough to serve as a designated hitter soon. Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry are in the corner outfield spots for the Tigers on Monday, while Colt Keith will be the designated hitter.

Rice (elbow) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game in Cleveland.

It's the second straight start Rice has missed after he sustained a left elbow contusion as a result of a pair of hit-by-pitches in Saturday's game against the Rays. He took some swings pregame and could be available off the bench, per Greg Joyce of the New York Post. Aaron Judge will receive a second straight start at designated hitter Monday, while Pablo Reyes is getting the call in right field.

Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Monday's 4-2 loss at Boston.

The 30-year-old took lefty flamethrower Aroldis Chapman deep in the eighth inning for his 25th career homer at Fenway Park. This performance marks Benintendi's first multi-hit performance since being activated from the injured list April 17 -- he has gone 3-for-18 with two homers across five games. Overall, Benintendi is slashing .245/.302/.490 with four home runs and eight RBI and runs scored apiece over 53 plate appearances.

The Tigers recalled Jung from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Jung has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Toledo this season. He's starting at third base for the Tigers on Monday and could see regular reps there against right-handed pitching. The 24-year-old played in 34 contests with Detroit last season, hitting .241/.362/.304 with zero home runs and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate.

The Tigers optioned Kreidler to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Kreidler has served as the Tigers' primary center fielder this season while Parker Meadows (shoulder) is shelved, but his playing time had dipped recently and the club has now elected to replace him on the roster. Javier Baez is drawing his first career start in center field Monday and Riley Greene will also be used at the position as Meadows continues to work his way back.

Slaten picked up the save in Monday's 4-2 win against the White Sox, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout.

Slaten efficiently secured the win, requiring only 12 pitches -- 10 of which were strikes -- to retire the side in order. Aroldis Chapman pitched the eighth inning, as he was called upon to face the top of the Chicago lineup. However, this outing shows that Slaten could be in line for more save opportunities as Boston manager Alex Cora may look to deploy Chapman in the highest leverage spots. Although Slaten owns a 4.00 ERA, his performance has been much better under the hood, pitching to a 1.59 FIP, 0.56 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB across nine innings.

Buehler (3-1) earned the win Monday against the White Sox, firing seven one-run innings while allowing four hits and three walks. He struck out nine.

Buehler bagged his second quality start of the season, throwing an even 100 pitches, from which he induced 11 whiffs. The only blemish on the right-hander's day came in the first inning when Edgar Quero cracked a run-scoring single. After allowing nine runs across 9.1 innings over his first two starts, Buehler has performed much better of late. He's tossed 18.1 innings over his last three outings, pitching to a 1.96 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB. Buehler is currently slated to make his next start against the Guardians in Cleveland this weekend.

Cannon (0-3) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over six innings at Boston. He struck out four.

The 24-year-old fired 90 pitches, generating a paltry five whiffs, in this early Patriots' Day outing. Walks continue to be a problem for Cannon, as he's issued at least two free passes in each of his five starts and sports a 5.6 BB/9. Outside of his strikeout rate (8.1 K/9), the Chicago right-hander has begun his season on a sour note, pitching to a 4.81 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 24.1 innings. Despite the disappointing start, Cannon remains locked into a rotation spot and currently lines up to make his next turn against the Athletics on the road.

Thomas is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Yankees.

Thomas made three straight starts last week after returning from a wrist injury, but he'll be on the bench Monday for the third game in a row. Angel Martinez is again in center field for the Guardians on Monday and appears to have emerged as manager Stephen Vogt's top option at the position, at least against right-handed pitching.

The Guardians selected Kent's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Kent had allowed just two runs with a 10:4 K:BB over 7.2 frames in his first five relief appearances with Columbus this season. The 27-year-old was on the Guardians' 40-man roster previously, but if/when he makes an appearance, it will be his major-league debut.
