Athletics' Brent Rooker: Battling knee soreness

Rooker isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs due to knee soreness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Manager Mark Kotsay said the decision to sit Rooker down for a day was precautionary, as the team didn't want to risk his soreness evolving into a more serious issue. Shea Langeliers will work as the Athletics' DH with Rooker on the bench, allowing Jonah Heim to start behind the plate.

  • Rangers' Alejandro Osuna: Expected to head to Triple-A

The Rangers are expected to option Osuna to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Osuna is likely to lose his spot along with Cody Freeman in order for the Rangers to create roster space for Corey Seager (back) and another player -- presumably Wyatt Langford (forearm). Osuna has slashed .200/.261/.200 over the last seven games since May 28.

  • Josh Sborz RP | TEX

Rangers' Josh Sborz: Back with Rangers on MiLB deal

Sborz signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sborz was released by the Rangers on Monday after putting up an 8.16 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 14.1 innings at Triple-A Round Rock. The 32-year-old righty will now return to the organization after testing the free-agent market, but he'll need to turn things around dramatically to have any chance at returning to the majors for the first time since 2024.

  • Cody Freeman LF | TEX

Rangers' Cody Freeman: Likely returning to Triple-A Friday

The Rangers are expected to option Freeman to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Freeman was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday and went 1-for-2 with a strikeout Wednesday in his first major-league action of the season. However, the Rangers are expected to create roster space for Corey Seager (back) and another player by sending Freeman and Alejandro Osuna down Friday.

  • Tyler Gilbert RP | CHW

White Sox's Tyler Gilbert: Back with team

The White Sox reinstated Gilbert from the family medical emergency list Thursday.

Gilbert will rejoin the active roster after spending a few days away from the team to tend to a family emergency. He's given up four runs over 2.2 innings in the majors this season but owns a 2.12 ERA and 0.65 WHIP at Triple-A Charlotte since being sent down to the minors in mid-April. Chris Murphy was optioned to Charlotte in a corresponding move.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Expected to return Friday

The Rangers are expected to activate Seager (back) from the injured list Friday prior to the series opener versus the Guardians, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Seager began a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Tuesday, and he's ready to come off the IL after going 1-for-5 in two minor-league games. The shortstop hit the 10-day injured list May 18 due to lower-back inflammation and had some postponements in his recovery along the way. The Rangers are likely to send Cody Freeman and Alejandro Osuna down, opening up a spot for Seager and another player.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Orioles' Trevor Rogers: Solid in third win

Rogers (3-6) earned the win Thursday over the Red Sox, allowing a run on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

The Orioles provided Rogers with more than enough run support Thursday, scoring six runs before the southpaw took the mound in the first inning. Rogers certainly did his part as well, blanking the Red Sox over five innings before allowing a lone run on a Willson Contreras two-out single in the sixth. It's certainly an encouraging effort from Rogers, who hadn't held opponents to fewer than four runs in any of his previous four starts -- he struggled to a 10.44 ERA across 25 frames in his previous six outings. Rogers will carry a 6.29 ERA with a 1.51 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB into his next start, tentatively scheduled to come next week at home against the Mariners.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | BOS

Red Sox's Joe La Sorsa: Joining Red Sox

The Pirates traded La Sorsa to the Red Sox on Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

La Sorsa will be active Friday for the Red Sox while they are in New York playing the Yankees. The southpaw exercised his upward-mobility clause at the end of May, and he'll now get a look in the majors with Boston. The Pirates are receiving cash considerations in return, per Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Next rehab start Saturday

Garcia's (elbow) next rehab outing will be Saturday with Single-A Dunedin, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia began his rehab assignment Wednesday with Single-A Dunedin. He was able to toss a scoreless inning on no hits with a strikeout and walk across 14 pitches.

  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Out of lineup again Thursday

Hernaiz is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Cubs.

It's the second straight day out of the lineup after Hernaiz had started each of the previous seven tilts. Alika Williams will handle shortstop for the Athletics.
