  • Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Working out on field

Chisholm (oblique) fielded grounders Friday at Yankee Stadium and was scheduled to begin hitting off a tee earlier this week, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Chisholm has been out all month with a right oblique strain but has been cleared to ease back into baseball activities. The second baseman was originally given a 4-6 week return timeline, so he's likely still not close to being activated from the IL even in a best-case scenario.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Sitting versus lefty again

Abreu is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Abreu has played against some left-handers this season, but with Rob Refsnyder now healthy, he'll have a seat versus Chris Sale. Abreu has just a .558 OPS in a limited sample (25 plate appearances) against lefties this season.

  • Red Sox's Cooper Criswell: Returns to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Criswell to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

The right-hander was called up by Boston on Wednesday and will return to Triple-A without seeing game action. Criswell appeared in three games for the Red Sox at the start of the season and gave up five earned runs over 4.1 frames, though he's been dominant in Worcester's rotation with a 1.99 ERA in five outings.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Moved to 60-day IL

The Red Sox transferred Crawford (knee) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Nick Burdi. It does not change the timeline for Crawford, who is not expected to be ready for his season debut until at least mid-June.

  • Nick Burdi RP | NYM

Red Sox's Nick Burdi: Added to roster

The Red Sox selected Burdi's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Burdi has dominated at Worcester this season, yielding just one run with a 25:5 K:BB across 16.2 relief innings. The 32-year-old got into 12 games with the Yankees last season, collecting a 1.86 ERA and 12:9 K:BB over 9.2 frames. Burdi is likely to work in middle relief.

  • Travis Bazzana 2B | CLE

Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Injured at Double-A

Bazzana is being evaluated for an injury to his right side at Double-A Akron, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Bazzana tweaked his side during the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday and was absent from RubberDucks' lineup Thursday. At this point, it's not clear how long the first overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft might be sidelined. Bazzana is slashing .252/.362/.433 with four home runs and eight stolen bases over 33 contests with Akron this season. He's homered twice and boasts a 1.013 OPS across his last 10 games.

  • Angel Martinez LF | CLE

Guardians' Angel Martinez: Grip on CF job might be slipping

Martinez is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati.

Martinez has now been out of the lineup twice in four games since Will Brennan was recalled from Triple-A Columbus. For the third time over that stretch, the Guardians are using Nolan Jones in center field and Brennan in right field.

  • Xavier Isaac 1B | TB

Rays' Xavier Isaac: Returns to lineup

Isaac started at DH and went 0-for-1 with three walks Thursday for Double-A Montgomery. He had not played since May 4 for undisclosed reasons.

Isaac wasn't placed on the injured list or any other roster exemption, so it's not clear if he was nursing an injury. Isaac is slashing .229/.460/.543 with two home runs and one stolen base in 12 games this year.

  • Mike Tauchman CF | NYM

White Sox's Mike Tauchman: Won't return this weekend

The White Sox do not plan to activate Tauchman (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list this weekend, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Tauchman has played four rehab games with Triple-A Charlotte, but the White Sox want to give him more time since he's coming back from a second right hamstring strain. He could be back sometime during the team's homestand next week. Once activated, Tauchman should serve as Chicago's regular right fielder against right-handed pitching.

  • Coco Montes 2B | TB

Rays' Coco Montes: Returns to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Montes to Triple-A Durham on Friday.

The 28-year-old was promoted Tuesday with Yandy Diaz heading to the restricted list, but Diaz was returned to the active roster Friday. Montes didn't see the field during his brief time in the majors, though he appeared in five big-league games earlier in the season and went 2-for-10 with an RBI and three strikeouts.
