  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: Starting rehab assignment

Cobb (hip) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with High-A West Michigan, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Cobb completed a bullpen session Monday and seems to be feeling good enough to see in-game action. The 37-year-old has been battling inflammation in his right hip since February, meaning he will likely require several starts in the minors to prepare for his return. He's not expected back until late June.

  • Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: Playing game at 1B over weekend

Manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Campbell will play first base during one game of Boston's three-game series in Atlanta that starts Friday, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.

The Red Sox have been searching for an answer at first base since Triston Casas (knee) suffered a season-ending injury in early May, and the search became even more dire a week later when Romy Gonzalez (quadriceps) hit the injured list. Campbell began taking first-base reps during pregame warmups shortly after Gonzalez's injury, and he'll get his first crack at in-game action this weekend. The 23-year-old rookie is slashing .225/.312/.354 in 202 plate appearances this season.

  • Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL

    Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Getting breather

Dubon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the A's.

Dubon will get the afternoon off Wednesday after making six consecutive starts. In his place, Brendan Rodgers will fill in at second base and bat ninth.

    Astros' Yainer Diaz: Idle Wednesday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

  • Jose Caballero SS | NYY

Rays' Jose Caballero: Taking seat Wednesday

Caballero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Caballero will yield to Taylor Walls at shortstop for the second time in four games. Caballero hasn't notched multiple hits in any of his last eight games, but he's accumulated seven stolen bases during that stretch.

  • Luis Robert CF | BAL

White Sox's Luis Robert: Battling knee soreness

Robert is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets due to knee soreness, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Robert is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Wednesday, and it's now known his absence is due to knee soreness. Michael Taylor will play center field Wednesday. Robert can be considered day-to-day, though, per Williams, White Sox manager Will Venable said Robert will likely be back for Friday's series opener against Baltimore.

  • Lane Thomas LF | ATL

Guardians' Lane Thomas: Dealing with injury

Thomas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Thomas was left out of Cleveland's starting nine for a second consecutive game Wednesday, and it's now known that his absence is due to injury. The center fielder is having the injury looked at Wednesday, and he's expected to be day-to-day. The Guardians are off Thursday before starting a three-game homestand Friday against the Angels. Angel Martinez will patrol center field Wednesday.

  • Ronel Blanco SP | HOU

Astros' Ronel Blanco: To have season-ending surgery

Blanco (elbow) will undergo surgery next week and will be sidelined for the rest of the 2025 season, the Astros announced Wednesday.

Blanco reported soreness in his throwing elbow on May 19 and hit the injured list May 22 with elbow inflammation. Houston sought out a second opinion on the 31-year-old's injury, which yielded severe enough results to require season-ending surgery. It's unclear if he will have traditional Tommy John surgery or a hybrid internal brace procedure. Colton Gordon should fill Blanco's spot in the rotation until Luis Garcia (elbow) or Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) are reinstated from the IL, which isn't expected to happen until late June or July. Blanco finishes 2025 with a 3-4 record, a 4.10 ERA and 48:20 K:BB in 48.1 innings spanning nine starts.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Getting breather

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

After making three straight starts behind the dish, Narvaez will get a rest day Wednesday. Connor Wong will catch and bat eighth for the series finale against Milwaukee.

  • Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: On bench Wednesday

Campbell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Campbell will get the day off Wednesday after making four consecutive starts. In his place, David Hamilton will bat seventh and play second base.
