Rangers' Austin Wynns: Nets MiLB deal with Rangers
The Rangers signed Wynns to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
The 35-year-old Wynns is a career .228/.273/.342 hitter covering parts of eight major-league seasons. He will give the Rangers some experienced catching depth at Triple-A Round Rock.

Austin Wynns: Heads to open market
Wynns elected free agency Tuesday.
Wynns will assess his options on the open market after he was moved off Atlanta's 40-man roster Monday following Drake Baldwin's return from the 10-day injured list. After the Angels traded him to Atlanta on June 3, Wynns joined the big club a day later and went on to go 1-for-14 at the dish during his brief stint with the team.

Atlanta outrighted Wynns to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Drake Baldwin (oblique) is back from the injured list, and Atlanta has elected to keep Sandy Leon over Wynns as Baldwin's backup catcher. Wynns will remain in the organization as experienced catching depth at Gwinnett.

Braves' Austin Wynns: Added to roster
Atlanta selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Angels' Austin Wynns: Finds home in Anaheim
Wynns signed a minor-league contract with the Angels on Saturday and was assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Wynns has gone 2-for-11 with a double through his first three games with Salt Lake. After the Athletics released Wynns earlier this month, the Angels elected to bring the 35-year-old aboard to bolster the organization's catching depth. Travis d'Arnaud (foot) is currently on the injured list and is without a clear timeline for a return, so Wynns should get the chance to play regularly at Salt Lake while Sebastian Rivero replaces d'Arnaud as the top backup to No. 1 catcher Logan O'Hoppe at the big-league level.

Austin Wynns: Reaches free agency
The Athletics released Wynns on Tuesday.
Wynns was removed from the Athletics' 40-man roster last week and is now a free agent after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 35-year-old is just a career .231/.276/.347 hitter covering parts of eight big-league seasons, but with organizations always seeking catching depth, he shouldn't be out of a job long.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Cleared from 40-man roster
The Athletics designated Wynns for assignment Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Shea Langeliers is back from paternity leave, and the A's have elected to keep new acquisition Jonah Heim around as his backup instead of Wynns. The 35-year-old Wynns is just 3-for-39 at the plate this season.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Hitless in rare start
Wynns went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a walk in Sunday's win over Cleveland.
With Shea Langeliers away from the team following the birth of his child, Wynns drew a rare start behind the dish Sunday but was largely unable to capitalize, reaching base only once via a walk in the sixth inning. The 35-year-old has appeared in 13 games this season, going 3-for-35 (.086) with three singles and three walks. With an off day Monday, Langeliers is likely to return to the lineup for Tuesday's series opener in Philadelphia, sending Wynns back to a reserve role.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Making fifth start of 2026
Wynns will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Rangers.
With Shea Langeliers handling one of the heavier workloads among all catchers this season, Wynns has seen sparse action through the first three weeks of the campaign. Wynns will be included in the starting nine Thursday for just the fifth time in the Athletics' first 19 contests.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Lands deal with A's
Wynns (abdomen) signed a one-year contract worth $1.1 million with the A's on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Wynns was traded to the A's in early June, and he had a solid year in a reserve role by maintaining an .865 OPS across 110 plate appearances prior to suffering an abdominal strain. He's also a solid defender, so he should be a suitable No. 2 backstop behind Shea Langeliers in 2026.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Done for 2025
The Athletics transferred Wynns (abdomen) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
The move clears a spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster for left-hander Brady Basso (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Wynns landed on the 10-day IL this past Tuesday due to an abdominal strain, and his move to the 60-day IL means the 34-year-old catcher will not be eligible to return in 2025. He appeared in 40 games between the Athletics (22) and Reds (18) this season and slashed .291/.321/.544 with six home runs and 21 RBI over 110 plate appearances. Wynns will be heading into his final year of arbitration this winter, though it's unclear if the Athletics intend to tender him a contract for 2026.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Lands on IL with abdominal strain
The Athletics placed Wynns on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with an abdominal strain.
He'll be shelved until at least mid-August while recuperating. Willie MacIver is up as Wynns' roster replacement and will serve as the backup catcher behind Shea Langeliers.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: On bench in Langeliers' return
Wynns is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Wynns had been splitting playing time at catcher with Willie MacIver for the past three weeks while Shea Langeliers (oblique) was on the injured list, but Wynns' modest role is likely to become even smaller after the Athletics activated Langeliers on Monday. Though he ended up sticking on the 26-man active roster over MacIver -- who was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas -- Wynns is likely to make just one or two starts per week now that Langeliers is back with the big club.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Not starting Sunday
Wynns is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
The Athletics released a lineup earlier Sunday that featured Wynns at catcher, but Willie MacIver will instead get the nod behind the plate for the series finale. The team hasn't indicated that Wynns' removal from the lineup was the result of any injury or illness, so the veteran backstop is presumably just getting a breather. The duo have alternated starts at catcher over the last eight games, but with Shea Langeliers (oblique) likely to return from the injured list during the upcoming week, Wynns could lose his spot on the roster.

Wynns has one hit in his last 15 at-bats, and he'll get the night off Friday. Willie MacIver will bat eighth and fill in behind the dish.

Wynns is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Wynns will get a breather Wednesday after he had started behind the dish in three of the Athletics' previous four games. With Wynns on the bench, Willie MacIver will handle catching duties for the Athletics.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Getting afternoon off
Wynns is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.
Wynns had started behind the dish in the first two games of the series and went 1-for-8 with a double and an RBI, but he'll take a seat for the finale while Willie MacIver receives the nod at catcher. Since being acquired by the Athletics on June 8, Wynns has slashed .179/.207/.464 with two home runs and six RBI.

Wynns isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.
Wynns will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Wednesday. While he rests, Willie MacIver will take over at catcher and bat eighth.

Athletics' Austin Wynns: Swats first homer with new club
Wynns went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-4 win over the Royals.
The veteran catcher turned on a Michael Wacha two-seamer in the second inning, giving Wynns his fourth long ball of the season and his first as a member of the A's. He came into 2025 with a career OPS of .642 and a career high of just four homers, but the 34-year-old now sports a stunning .354/.404/.667 slash line in 52 plate appearances this season between the Reds and A's. Wynns has been alternating starts with Willie MacIver over the last four games, an arrangement that could continue while Shea Langeliers (oblique) remains sidelined.
