Crawford (knee) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week, MLB.com reports.

Crawford, who threw a four-inning live batting practice session Saturday, will move on to a multi-start rehab assignment. He could be back by mid-June -- with Tanner Houck (elbow) right behind him -- at which point the Red Sox will have some decisions to make. Existing rotation members Brayan Bello (6.11 ERA in last four starts) and Lucas Giolito (4.78 in six starts) may be in danger of losing their jobs, while Richard Fitts just came off the IL himself.

Ward went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Guardians on Saturday.

Ward built upon an early Angels lead with a blast to center field in the second inning. The long ball gave the 31-year-old 10 homers across 28 contests in the month of May after he went deep six times over 28 games to begin the campaign. Ward is up to 38 RBI in 2025, more than halfway to the career-high mark of 75 he set last season.

The Blue Jays recalled Schneider from Triple-A Buffalo, and he will start at second base and bat seventh Sunday against the Athletics.

The 26-year-old will fill the roster spot of Daulton Varsho, who landed on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. Schneider had a .625 OPS in 135 big-league games in 2024 and has gone 1-for-15 in 10 games with Toronto this season.

The Blue Jays placed Varsho on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left hamstring strain.

Toronto initially attributed Varsho's early departure from Saturday's 8-7 win over the Athletics to hamstring discomfort, but follow-up testing confirmed that the outfielder had suffered a strain. The severity of the strain isn't known, but even if it's of the mild variety, Varsho may not be ready to immediately return from the IL when first eligible June 11. Myles Straw will get the starting nod in center field in Sunday's series finale, but Nathan Lukes, Alan Roden and George Springer could also get reps at the position while Varsho is on the shelf.

The Red Sox designated Sabol for assignment Sunday.

He was cast off Boston's 40-man roster to clear room for utility player Nate Eaton, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Worcester. Sabol was up with the big club for just over three weeks earlier this season while Connor Wong was on the injured list but appeared in just eight games and went 2-for-16 at the plate. He hadn't been especially productive over a larger sample of 102 plate appearances with Worcester this season, slashing .193/.304/.341 with three home runs and four stolen bases.

The Red Sox optioned Sogard to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Sogard's demotion comes after Abraham Toro supplanted him as the Red Sox's preferred option at first base. Though he had an opportunity to claim an everyday role after Triston Casas (knee) suffered a season-ending injury and Romy Gonzalez (quadriceps) went on the injured list as well, Sogard slashed just .245/.302/.306 over 53 plate appearances with the big club. Boston called up utility player Nate Eaton from Worcester to replace Sogard on the 26-man roster.

Gonzalez (quadriceps) started at first base and went 0-for-3 for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday,

Gonzalez played six innings in the field to kick off his rehab assignment. He'll start as the designated hitter for the WooSox on Sunday, per MLB.com, and could be activated as early as Monday. Gonzalez will give Boston another option at first base alongside Abraham Toro.

The Red Sox selected Eaton's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Eaton will return to the big leagues for the first time since 2023, when he appeared in 28 games with the Royals. The 28-year-old has slashed .277/.364/.446 with five home runs and four stolen bases over 225 Triple-A plate appearances, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a short-side platoon player while he's up with Boston. Eaton will provide the Red Sox with some speed and versatility off the bench, as he's made starts at all three outfield spots as well as three infield positions (second base, third base and shortstop) this season.

The Red Sox placed Slaten on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation.

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Slaten experienced some fatigue after his most recent appearance in Milwaukee on Wednesday, when he took the loss and a blown save after giving up two unearned runs in one-third of an inning. The right-hander will be eligible to be reinstated June 13, and he could be ready to rejoin the Red Sox at that point since his injury doesn't appear to be overly serious.

The Red Sox recalled Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

He'll be joining the bullpen as a replacement for right-hander Justin Slaten (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Guerrero had two stints with the big club earlier this season, making four relief appearances while logging a 1.69 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 5.1 innings. Expect the Red Sox to use him primarily in lower-leverage spots.
