Mariners' Alex Hoppe: Ready for MLB debut

Hoppe was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Hoppe has appeared in eight games for Triple-A Tacoma in 2026 and has not surrendered a run on four hits with a 12:3 K:BB across eight innings. The 27-year-old will look to build off his early season minor-league success when he makes his MLB debut out of the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Mariners designated Casey Legumina for assignment.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Next rehab outing set

Cole (elbow) will make his next rehab start Thursday with High-A Hudson Valley, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The 35-year-old threw 44 pitches across 4.1 innings during his first rehab outing Friday with Double-A Somerset, and he'll move down a level for his next start. Cole will likely require an additional two or three rehab appearances before being cleared to retake a major-league mound for the first time since 2024.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Starting rehab assignment Friday

Rodon (elbow/hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Hudson Valley on Friday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

The beginning of Rodon's rehab assignment got pushed back when he developed some hamstring tightness earlier this month, but he's now finally been cleared for game action. Rodon is expected to make three rehab starts before rejoining the Yankees' rotation in early May. He had offseason surgery to remove loose bodies and shave down a bone spur from his left elbow.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Another bullpen on tap

Verlander (hip) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Manager A.J. Hinch said last week that Verlander's recovery from hip inflammation was "going a little slower than anticipated," but the 42-year-old continues to throw bullpen sessions. Verlander hasn't suffered a setback to this point, but it doesn't appear he'll be rejoining Detroit's rotation in the immediate future.

  • T.J. Nichols SP | TB

Rays' TJ Nichols: Shelved at Double-A

Double-A Montgomery placed Nichols on its 7-day injured list April 7 due to an unspecified injury.

Nichols struck out five over five innings of one-run ball in his 2026 debut April 3 but was shut down shortly thereafter and remains without a clear timeline to return to the mound. The 23-year-old righty split time between Montgomery and High-A Bowling Green in 2025, logging a 2.90 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 156:30 K:BB in 133.2 innings.

  • Zach McKinstry 2B | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Going through light activities

McKinstry (hip) has resumed light baseball activities, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

McKinstry landed on the 10-day injured list last week with left hip/abdominal inflammation but has started to slowly ramp things back up at the Tigers' spring training complex in Florida. He has a good chance to return Sunday when first eligible.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Another start versus lefty

Rice will start at first base and bat third in Tuesday's contest against the Red Sox.

It's left-hander Connelly Early on the bump for the Red Sox, marking the lefty-swinging Rice's fourth straight start versus a southpaw. In the Yankees' first three games against lefties this season, Rice started just once. The 27-year-old will carry a four-game home run streak into Tuesday's series opener.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Rehab stint moves to Triple-A

The Yankees transferred Volpe's (shoulder) rehab assignment from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old shortstop began the rehab stint April 14 and went 4-for-11 with a walk, two stolen bases and three strikeouts in four games with Somerset. Volpe will now move up to the highest level of the minors as he enters the final stage of his rehab program after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. He should be ready to rejoin the Yankees after playing in a handful of games at Triple-A, so he should be back from the IL in the next week or two.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: On bench again Tuesday

Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

It's the third straight game on the bench for Wong after he started the previous three contests. The 29-year-old's .885 OPS in 27 plate appearances this year is far superior to Carlos Narvaez's .542 mark, though Narvaez now appears to have the upper hand for playing time again after a strong couple games at the plate.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Starting third straight

Narvaez is starting behind the plate and batting ninth Tuesday against the Yankees, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

After recently finding himself on the bench for three straight contests, Narvaez returned to the starting nine the past two days and went 3-for-6 with a walk, two doubles and a stolen base to earn a third consecutive start Tuesday. Connor Wong has still been much better offensively with an .885 OPS in 27 plate appearances, but it appears Narvaez has reasserted his position for the starting job.
