  • Bryan Hudson RP | CHW

White Sox's Bryan Hudson: Rejoins big club

The White Sox recalled Hudson from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

The left-hander was up with Chicago for a couple days in early August after being claimed off waivers and will now receive another look in the majors. Hudson has made 15 appearances between the Brewers and White Sox this year and has a 5.14 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 17:13 K:BB over 14 innings.

  • Ty Johnson SP | TB

Rays' Ty Johnson: Bests last year's breakout

    Johnson has a 2.66 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 132:36 K:BB in 101.1 innings for Double-A Montgomery.

Johnson has set a carer high in innings this year with time to spare, and he is also on pace to best his ratios from his breakout 2024 season. The big question with the 6-foot-6 righty coming into the year was the quality of his changeup, as he mostly relied on his plus fastball and plus slider a year ago. However, his changeup has kept lefties in check this year (0.97 WHIP, .172 average against), and Johnson is now looking like a future mid-rotation starter. He may get a taste of Triple-A to close out the year and will likely head to Triple-A to begin 2026.

  • Guardians' Dauri Fernandez: Bumped to Single-A

Fernandez was promoted from the Arizona Complex League to Single-A Lynchburg on Aug. 28.

Fernandez passed his stateside debut with flying colors, slashing .333/.398/.558 with six home runs and 16 steals in 43 ACL games, and this run with the Hillcats to close the year will just be the cherry on top. The 18-year-old switch hitter's first two games at Single-A have come at shortstop, but he also saw double-digit games at third base and second base while playing at the complex. Like many young Guardians infield prospects before him, Fernandez is undersized (listed at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds) and seen as a hit-over-power prospect who could grow into sneaky power, so he exceeded expectations as a slugger this summer, albeit against weak rookie-level pitching.

  • Guardians' Braylon Doughty: Shelved with shoulder issue

Single-A Lynchburg placed Doughty on the 7-day injured list Aug. 23 due to right shoulder inflammation.

Doughty logged four scoreless innings in his most recent start Aug. 15 and had been on a bit of a roll, logging a 0.51 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 25:0 K:BB in 17.2 innings over his four most recent starts. The No. 36 overall pick in 2024 out of high school, Doughty had an excellent first pro season. The 6-foot-1 righty amassed a 3.48 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 85.1 innings across 22 starts. It's possible the inflammation will subside over the offseason, but it will be worth monitoring Doughty's status when he reports to spring training in 2026.

  • Yankees' Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: Pushing 130 innings

    Rodriguez-Cruz has a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB in 45.1 innings through eight starts for Double-A Somerset.

Rodriguez-Cruz has been a prospect of note since his time in Boston's system -- he was traded to the Yankees this past offseason for Carlos Narvaez -- but this has certainly been a breakout season for the 6-foot-3 righty. He was promoted to Double-A on July 11 after stifling High-A hitters to the tune of a 2.26 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. Rodriguez-Cruz has a full arsenal of quality pitches, led by his sinker and sweeper, and his 8.1 percent walk rate at Double-A is the best mark of his career. He has also logged 129 innings this year -- almost 40 more than his prior career high of 89.2 innings in 2024.

  • Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Promoted ahead of start

The Tigers recalled Gipson-Long from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Gipson-Long will start Tuesday's game at home against the Mets, and manager A.J. Hinch said the right-hander will get either another start or bulk relief outing next week versus the Yankees. The righty hasn't reached the five-inning mark in an appearance since late June, so he won't pitch terribly deep into Tuesday's game.

  • Chase Lee RP | DET

Tigers' Chase Lee: Sent back to minors

The Tigers optioned Lee to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Lee had just been recalled Monday and will be sent back down without having made an appearance. He's making space on the active roster for Sawyer Gipson-Long, who will start Tuesday's game against the Mets.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | TOR

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Socks 16th homer

Varsho went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Reds.

The center fielder took Reds closer Emilio Pagan deep in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally that gave the Blue Jays a 4-2 lead, but the Toronto bullpen immediately handed it right back to Cincy in the bottom of the frame. Varsho was out of the lineup for a couple games due to a bruised hand, but Monday's long ball was a strong sign that he's fully healthy. Over the course of an injury-plagued season, Varsho has 16 homers and a career-best .866 OPS in just 49 games.

  • Orioles' Jeremiah Jackson: Leads O's offense Monday

Jackson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Monday in a 4-3 win over the Padres.

The versatile rookie's fifth-inning long ball broke a 2-2 tie, and he scored the game-winning run in the seventh on a Dylan Beavers single. Jackson continues to rake -- he's riding a 12-game hitting streak during which he's slashing .340/.364/.585 with three homers, 11 RBI and eight runs. His hot bat has made him an everyday presence in Baltimore's lineup, and he's been splitting his time between third base and right field.

  • Keegan Akin RP | BAL

Orioles' Keegan Akin: Notches fourth save

Akin earned a save against San Diego on Monday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over a scoreless ninth inning.

Akin entered the ninth with a one-run lead and worked around a one-out single to secure the save. It was the southpaw's fourth save of the season, all of which have come since Aug. 2. Akin seems to be the primary closer for Baltimore, though he's also blown three saves over the past month and Corbin Martin and Dietrich Enns each recorded a save apiece for the Orioles in that span, so it may not be an entirely settled situation. Nonetheless, Akin has pitched well enough (3.21 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB over 14 innings spanning his past 13 outings) to be worth a pickup by fantasy managers digging for saves.
