The White Sox optioned Elko to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.

Elko had been working as Chicago's primary first baseman prior to the demotion and slugged four homers with eight RBI and a stolen base over 18 games, though he posted a mediocre .601 OPS and 38.1 percent strikeout rate. His spot on the 26-man roster has been taken by Ryan Noda, who was called up from Charlotte in a corresponding move and could take over as Chicago's top option at first base.

The White Sox added Civale to their active roster Saturday.

Civale was acquired by Chicago in a trade with Milwaukee on Friday. He's slated to make his White Sox debut as a starter Sunday versus Texas. To make room for Civale on the 26-man roster, lefty reliever Tyler Gilbert was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox recalled Noda from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.

Noda was DFA'd by Boston on June 9 and was subsequently claimed off waivers by the White Sox. Chicago initially optioned the first baseman to Triple-A but has now brought him to the major-league roster. In a corresponding roster move, fellow infielder Tim Elko as optioned to the minors. Noda is starting at first base and batting seventh in his White Sox debut Saturday.

Houston transferred Arrighetti to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Arrighetti broke his right thumb after being hit by a ball during batting practice in early April and had been on the 15-day IL since. The move to the 60-day IL doesn't affect the hurler's timeline to return -- early July remains a best-case scenario -- but it does open a spot on the team's 40-man roster. Arrighetti will likely need a minor-league rehab stint before he's ready to rejoin Houston's rotation.

The Astros selected Guillorme's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Guillorme had spent the campaign with Sugar Land until Saturday, posting a .248/.377/.317 slash line with two homers, 22 RBI and three stolen bases over 57 contests. The veteran utility man logged big-league time with three different teams last year after spending the first six years of his MLB career with the Mets. Guillorme's call-up was part of a flurry of Astros roster moves Saturday -- pitcher Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) was transferred to the 60-day IL, outfielder Jacob Melton (ankle) landed on the 10-day IL, utility man Shay Whitcomb was optioned to the minors and outfielder Cooper Hummel also had his contract selected from Triple-A.

Houston selected Hummel's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Hummel is set for his second stint with the Astros -- he went 0-for-8 with the team over six games last year -- after being signed to a minor-league contract June 7. The outfielder logged one plate appearance with the Orioles earlier this season and has played in 16 contests between the Triple-A clubs of Baltimore and Houston. To make room for Hummel on the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred pitcher Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) to the 60-day IL. The club also placed outfielder Jacob Melton on the 10-day IL, optioned utility man Shay Whitcomb to the minors and selected the contract of infielder Luis Guillorme from Triple-A.

Whitcomb had been summoned to the big club May 31 and went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and no walks while up in the majors. He'll now return to Sugar Land, where he was a .956 OPS with 18 homers, 38 RBI and six steals over 53 games this season. Whitcomb's demotion was part of a series of Astros roster moves Saturday -- Jacob Melton (ankle) landed on the 10-day injured list, both Cooper Hummel and Luis Guillorme were selected from Triple-A and Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Melton was taken out of Friday's game against Houston in the fifth inning due to what was later diagnosed as a right ankle sprain. He'll now need to miss at least the next 10 days of action. It's unfortunate timing for the rookie, who had been starting regularly in left field and had begun to pick things up at the plate, going 4-for-9 with four RBI over his past four games. Cooper Hummel and Luis Guillorme were both called up from Triple-A on Saturday, while Shay Whitcomb was optioned to Triple-A and Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

The veteran outfielder logged just one plate appearance with the Orioles this season but has played well since joining Sugar Land, posting a 1.041 OPS with two home runs, two triples and seven RBI over six games. It's not yet clear what the corresponding roster move will be for Hummel's expected call-up.

Yoshida (shoulder) began throwing from left field to second base Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Yoshida is increasing the intensity and velocity of his throwing, a sign that he has turned a corner in his rehab from a right shoulder labrum tear. The Red Sox are anticipating a return after the All-Star break; however, it's unclear what role awaits Yoshida. Boston recently promoted top prospect and outfielder Roman Anthony, who will need regular at-bats. Designated hitter isn't a realistic option -- Yoshida has served as the DH in the past -- because Rafael Devers has a grip on that position.
