Montgomery went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a run scored and a strikeout in an 8-2 loss to the Guardians on Friday.

In his first at-bat, Montgomery belted a solo home run against Parker Messick to cut the Guardians' lead to one. It was the 23-year-old's first home run since July 12, breaking a drought of 19 straight games without a long ball. On the campaign, Montgomery is now batting .236/.316/.385 with four home runs and 23 RBI through 196 plate appearances.

Rutschman (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Interim manager Chad Tracy teased the possibility of Rutschman beginning an assignment this weekend before Friday's game against the A's, and the team has now made it official. The 28-year-old backstop has been on the injured list since July 20 due to wrist inflammation, and although he's changed teams since then, he is still expected to work in an everyday role once he's activated.

Murakami went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts during an 8-2 loss to Cleveland on Friday.

Murakami stepped to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and swatted his 25th long ball of the season. His solo shot tied Colson Montgomery for the most on the club this season. The home run extended his on-base streak to 23 games, dating back to July 10. The 26-year-old has slashed .236/.369/.531 with 25 home runs and 52 RBI in 350 plate appearances this season.

Kwan went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in an 8-2 win over the White Sox on Friday.

In the top of the sixth inning, Kwan came up to bat and blasted his first home run since April 6 and only his second of the season to extend Cleveland's lead to 8-1. The 28-year-old extended his hitting streak to seven games and has now recorded at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 games. Over his last 30 games, Kwan is batting a scorching hot .406/.487/.525 with 16 walks in 117 plate appearances.

Martinez went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, six total RBI, a run scored and a strikeout during Friday's 8-2 win over the White Sox.

Martinez got the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run single, giving Cleveland a 2-0 lead. The 24-year-old then stepped to the plate in the fifth inning and blasted a grand slam. Martinez logged a season-high six RBI, breaking his previous record of four, which he accomplished twice earlier this season. He has slashed .231/.266/.424 with a career-high 12 home runs, 42 RBI, nine steals and 31 runs scored in 284 plate appearances.

Messick (9-6) picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings against the White Sox on Friday.

Messick recorded his sixth straight start with two earned runs or fewer allowed Friday, as the left-hander made just two mistakes, allowing solo home runs to Braden Montgomery and Munetaka Murakami. The 25-year-old logged his most strikeouts in a game since June 23, when he recorded 10 strikeouts, also against the White Sox. Over 23 starts this year, Messick has posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 136:38 K:BB in 136.2 innings. The southpaw is lined up to make his next start Thursday against the Tigers.

Schultz (3-9) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one in one-third of an inning Friday against Cleveland.

Schultz was pulled after just one-third of an inning from Friday's series opener after White Sox manager Will Venable made the team's second mound visit of the inning, which, according to the official MLB rules, forces a pitcher to be removed from the game. The 23-year-old allowed a two-run single to Angel Martinez to open the scoring before exiting early. On the campaign, the left-hander now owns a 6.06 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 59:31 K:BB through 65.1 innings.

Tolle (7-6) earned the win against the Athletics on Friday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out 14 across six innings while not issuing a walk.

Tolle had a perfect game going through four innings, during which he struck out the side in both the second and fourth frames. That effort ended in the fifth by a leadoff home run by Tyler Soderstrom, but Tolle responded by striking out the next two batters he faced before fanning three more batters in the sixth. The 23-year-old induced a ridiculous 24 whiffs on just 84 pitches (61 strikes), and he probably could have stayed in the game for at least one more inning if the Red Sox needed him to. His 14 punchouts surpassed his previous career high of 11 that he had in his 2026 debut against the Yankees on April 23. Tolle has recorded quality starts in back-to-back outings, and he'll take a 3.20 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 107 innings into his next start, which is lined up for next week against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Matthews was removed from Friday's game against the Brewers with a right foot blister, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Matthews came out to the mound to warm up for the sixth inning but was taken out of the game by a trainer. It's unclear whether his blister will affect his availability for his next start -- lined up for Wednesday against Baltimore -- but the Twins may provide more details in the near future. Before his exit, Matthews gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while collecting four strikeouts.

The Tigers optioned Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Hanifee gave up three earned runs in one inning across two appearances after joining the big club Sunday. He'll now head back down to Triple-A to make room for Jackson Jobe (elbow), who is set to start Saturday's contest against the Giants.
