The Rays recalled Seymour from Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

Tampa Bay had optioned the lefty to Durham on Wednesday, but Seymour will rejoin the big club just one day later to take over the 26-man active roster spot that had belonged to right-hander Zack Littell, who was traded to the Reds. Seymour has worked exclusively in relief over his seven appearances with the Rays, but he's made 15 starts at Triple-A this season and could be an option to join the big-league rotation if Tampa Bay isn't yet ready to call right-hander Taj Bradley back up from Durham to replace Littell.

De Vries was traded from the Padres to the Athletics on Thursday along with three pitchers from San Diego in exchange for Mason Miller and JP Sears, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

De Vries is one of baseball's top prospects, but he is over a year away from the major leagues. He isn't a lock to stick at shortstop, and now that he is in the same organization as Jacob Wilson (forearm), it's safe to assume De Vries will end up at second base long term. De Vries has slashed .245/.357/.410 with eight home runs, eight steals, a 14.1 percent walk rate and a 19.6 percent strikeout in 82 games as the youngest player at High-A.

The Orioles recalled Young from Double-A Chesapeake on Thursday.

Baltimore returned Young to the minors Wednesday, one day after he made a six-inning spot start as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Despite turning in a quality start, Young still holds a 6.63 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 36.2 innings in the majors this season, but he could nonetheless be in line for additional turns through the Baltimore rotation after he was recalled from Double-A to replace Zach Eflin (back), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Eflin's next start was scheduled to come up either Sunday versus the Cubs or Monday versus the Phillies, and the Orioles could look to either Young or rehabbing left-hander Cade Povich (hip) to fill in for the righty.

Eflin will hit the shelf for the third time this season and for the second time in just over a month due to continued back problems. After being reinstated last week, Eflin made just two starts for the Orioles before suffering an apparent setback. Baltimore recalled right-hander Brandon Young from Double-A Chesapeake in a corresponding move, and he or the rehabbing Cade Povich (hip) could be called upon to replace Eflin in the rotation the next time his turn comes up.

Matthews (2-3) took the loss in Wednesday's 13-1 rout at the hands of the Red Sox, coughing up five runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

The 25-year-old right-hander once again showed great control without much command in the zone, firing 52 of 74 pitches for strikes but watching half the hits he allowed go for extra bases, including a solo shot by Trevor Story in the second inning. Matthews has an impressive 17:1 K:BB over three starts and 14.1 innings since the All-Star break, but it comes with a 6.28 ERA that isn't just a product of bad luck. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Detroit.

Duran went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI in Wednesday's 13-1 win over the Twins.

The game was already getting out of hand when the 28-year-old outfielder belted a two-run homer off Noah Davis in the sixth inning. Duran has gone yard in back-to-back games, giving him 11 home runs on the season, and over 11 contests since the All-Star break he's slashing .333/.458/.769 with nine of his 13 hits (four doubles, two triples and three homers) going for extra bases, along with two steals, 10 runs and 10 RBI. Duran had a sluggish start to the campaign, but a hot finish could allow him to come close to matching his production from his breakout 2024.

The Orioles are expected to place Eflin on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

The report doesn't specify what kind of injury Eflin is dealing with, but he just returned from a back issue last week after missing nearly a month of action. Rosenthal relays that it's "very possible" Eflin is still traded ahead of Thursday's deadline even though he's hurt, as he is expected to be back before the end of the season. The veteran righty holds a 5.93 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB across 71.1 innings this season.

Yoshida went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 13-1 win over the Twins.

The 32-year-old launched a solo shot off position player Kody Clemens in the ninth inning, giving Yoshida his first homer of the year in his 13th game. After a very belated start to his campaign due to offseason shoulder surgery, Yoshida has a .239/.255/.370 slash line with three doubles, two steals, three runs and four RBI in 47 plate appearances since his activation in early July. He's been seeing consistent playing time since the All-Star break, but Yoshida's role could become more secure of the Red Sox are able to flip one of their young outfielders before the trade deadline.

Bello (7-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 13-1 rout of the Twins, allowing one run on five hits and four walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

While his control wasn't particularly sharp, the only real blemish on Bello's line was a solo shot by Matt Wallner in the second inning. The right-hander fired his fourth quality start in his last five trips to the mound, and he hasn't been tagged for more than three earned runs since May 18, posting a 2.83 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 54:19 K:BB over 70 innings since the beginning of June. Bello will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Royals.

Paddack (4-9) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

The right-hander celebrated being dealt to a Tigers team in the thick of the race for the best record in the AL by delivering his sixth quality start of the season on 84 pitches (58 strikes) in his debut for his new squad. Paddack has had an uneven campaign, posting a 4.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 88:27 K:BB through 117 innings, but simply being able to take a regular turn in the rotation has to count as a successful season -- that innings total is his highest since 2019. He'll look to build on this performance in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Twins team that just traded him away.
