  • Edgar Quero C | CHW

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Sitting again Wednesday

Quero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

Quero and Kyle Teel both received steady playing time between the catcher and designated-hitter spots last week, but Quero's opportunities have begun to tail off. He'll be on the bench Wednesday for the second time in the series and the third time in five games while Teel starts behind the plate and Mike Tauchman serves as Chicago's DH.

  • Chase Meidroth 2B | CHW

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Taking Wednesday off

Meidroth is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

Meidroth will get a chance to catch his breath after he started in each of the White Sox's last five games. Curtis Mead will enter the lineup in Meidroth's stead, covering third base while Miguel Vargas shifts over to first base and Lenyn Sosa occupies second.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Checking back into starting nine

Montgomery (side) will start at shortstop and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Montgomery was held out of Tuesday's 11-10 loss after exiting in the series opener a night earlier due to a sore left side, but he appears to have made enough improvement following the day off to rejoin the lineup for the finale in Atlanta. After starting at shortstop in Montgomery's stead Tuesday, Chase Meidroth will retreat to the bench.

  • Braydon Fisher RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Braydon Fisher: Sent packing to minors

The Blue Jays optioned Fisher to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Fisher has been one of the team's better relievers this season, posting a 3.03 ERA and 50:12 K:BB over 38.2 innings. However, he has allowed a total of four runs over his last four appearances, and having minor-league options remaining certainly worked against him. His spot on the active roster will be taken over by Shane Bieber (elbow), who is slated to come off the 60-day injured list to make his season debut with a start Friday in Miami.

  • White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Back up with big club

The White Sox recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Gonzalez has permitted two runs with a 6:4 K:BB over eight innings in his first five appearances at the big-league level. The 23-year-old will join the Chicago bullpen and the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Elvis Peguero (elbow), who was placed on the injured list.

  • Elvis Peguero RP | CHW

White Sox's Elvis Peguero: Goes down with strained elbow

The White Sox placed Peguero on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow strain.

Peguero recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday and evidently hurt his elbow during his appearance in the White Sox's 11-10 loss to Atlanta later that night. He'll be eligible for activation Sept. 4, but given the nature of the injury, the righty might not be ready at that time.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Trying PFPs again Wednesday

Martin (calf) will attempt to go through pitchers' fielding practice Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Martin suffered a setback with his left calf strain last week when he tried going through PFPs, but he will give it another go Wednesday. The veteran reliever has been sidelined for most of the second half and is likely to need at least a couple rehab appearances before being activated, even if things go better for him Wednesday than they did last week.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Returns to lineup Wednesday

Perez (illness) will start at catcher and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Perez missed each of the previous two contests with an illness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Wednesday. The Royals will be going for their sixth straight victory and eighth win over their last nine contests.

  • Rangers' Caleb Boushley: Starting Wednesday's game

Boushley will start for the Rangers in Wednesday's game versus the Royals, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Boushley has made five starts at Triple-A Round Rock this season and often pitches multiple innings in his relief outings with the Rangers. However, he will be taking the hill on one day of rest and last covered more than one inning in an appearance 10 days ago, so the Texas bullpen will be heavily involved Wednesday. Boushley shouldn't be expected to work deep enough into the start to qualify for a win.

  • Jose Urquidy RP | PIT

Tigers' Jose Urquidy: Poised for bullpen role

The Tigers will use Urquidy (elbow) as a reliever if/when he's activated from the 60-day injured list, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Making his way back from June 2024 Tommy John surgery, Urquidy has allowed one run with a 4:0 K:BB over five innings covering four rehab starts. He hasn't gone more than two frames in any appearance, and the right-hander will continue to work in shorter, more frequent outings as the Tigers prep him for a relief role. Detroit has a $4 million option on Urquidy for 2026, and it could use him as a starter next year if that's picked up. However, there's no room for him in the rotation now, and there's also a lack of time to get stretched out.
