    Yankees' David Bednar: Secures save Saturday

    Bednar earned a save against the Blue Jays on Saturday, striking out three batters over 1.1 scoreless innings.

    Bednar was called upon in the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on first base. He threw a wild pitch but was able to fan Nathan Lukes to get out of the frame unscathed. The veteran closer then returned for the ninth and retired the side in order to close out the win for New York. This was Bednar's first save since Aug. 16, though he picked up two wins over five games in the interim. Since joining the Yankees at the trade deadline, Bednar has gone 4-for-7 in save opportunities but has posted a solid 2.87 ERA with a 25:6 K:BB across 15.2 frames spanning 13 appearances.

    Yankees' Luis Gil: Continues to pitch well

    Gil (3-1) earned the win over Toronto on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out one batter over six innings.

    Gil was a bit wild with the four walks, but he mostly managed to work around the free passes. The right-hander picked up only one punchout and recorded 13 flyouts to just three groundouts, but he nonetheless notched his first quality start of the campaign. Gil yielded five runs over 3.1 innings in his 2025 debut Aug. 3 versus Miami, but he's been very effective since, surrendering no more than two runs while completing at least five frames in each of his subsequent six starts. Overall, he's at a 3.31 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 30:23 K:BB through 35.1 innings.

  • Rays' Brian Van Belle: Will undergo MRI

    Van Belle will undergo an MRI on his injured right elbow Saturday night, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

    According to Topkin, Van Belle is still experiencing pain and discomfort in his right elbow after throwing 37 pitches in Friday's loss to the Guardians. Van Belle said while he didn't feel a pop in his elbow Friday, he didn't feel comfortable throwing his fastball or sweeper. He's since been placed on the 15-day injured list, and the Rays are calling the injury right elbow inflammation for now.

    Angels' Ryan Zeferjahn: Placed on IL with knee tendinitis

    The Angels placed Zeferjahn on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right knee tendinitis.

    Zeferjahn recorded two outs in Friday's loss to the Athletics but allowed one run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout. With Zeferjahn off to the injured list, the Angels recalled Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Late. Zeferjahn owns a 4.77 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 72:33 K:BB across 54.2 innings this season.

    Angels' Chase Silseth: Recalled from Triple-A

    The Angels recalled Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

    Silseth takes the 26-man roster spot of Ryan Zeferjahn, who was placed on the 15-day IL due to right knee tendinitis. Silseth has pitched in three games out of the Angels' bullpen this season, working 2.1 scoreless innings with a 3:4 K:BB.

    Astros' Colton Gordon: Optioned to Triple-A

    The Astros optioned Gordon to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    Gordon has appeared in 16 games for the Astros this season, making 14 starts, and has registered a 4-4 record, 5.67 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 64:15 K:BB across 73 innings. He's no longer needed in the rotation after Luis Garcia returned from his elbow injury earlier this week.

    Astros' Jacob Melton: Heads back to Triple-A

    The Astros optioned Melton to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    With Jake Meyers (calf) back from the 10-day IL, Melton will return to Sugar Land after slashing .149/.219/.179 with one triple, seven RBI, seven runs scored, six stolen bases and a 5:28 BB:K across his first 74 big-league plate appearances this season.

    Astros' Logan VanWey: Recalled from Triple-A

    The Astros recalled VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    VanWey made his MLB debut earlier this season and has appeared in eight games out of the Houston bullpen, registering a 5.59 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

    Astros' Jake Meyers: Activated from IL

    The Astros activated Meyers (calf) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    Meyers has been sidelined since July 9, but he's in the lineup Saturday against the Rangers, starting in center field and batting ninth. On the season, Meyers is slashing .308/.369/.405 with three home runs, 21 RBI, 47 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and a 27:58 BB:K across 322 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Spencer Arrighetti: UCL intact, will avoid surgery

    Arrighetti (elbow) said Saturday that he will miss the remainder of the regular season, but his UCL is intact, and he won't require surgery, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

    Arrighetti is dealing with right elbow inflammation, and he hopes to resume throwing once the swelling subsides. The diagnosis comes as good news for the right-hander, who landed on the 15-day injured listed earlier this week. Both Arrighetti and the Astros remain hopeful he can return to the mound at some point in the postseason should Houston make the playoffs.
