Justyn-Henry Malloy 3B | TB
Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Back in majors
The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Malloy, 25, slashed .317/.444/.490 with eight home runs and five steals in 66 games at Triple-A this season, but he has yet to have sustained success at the big-league level, as he's managed a career .205/.307/.339 slash line in 348 plate appearances. The righty-hitting Malloy figures to play mostly against left-handed pitchers while getting starts at designated hitter and the outfield corners.

Masataka Yoshida DH | BOS
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Out of lineup versus lefty
Yoshida is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.
Yoshida had started in all three of the Red Sox's games versus Pittsburgh over the weekend and went 2-for-10 with two walks and one run, but he'll head to the bench Monday while the Guardians send lefty Parker Messick to the hill. Rob Refsnyder will replace Yoshida in the lineup at designated hitter.

Carlos Narvaez C | BOS
Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Resting Monday
Narvaez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.
Narvaez will take a seat for Monday's day game after he had started behind the plate in three of Boston's previous four contests. Connor Wong will handle catching duties in the series opener.

Trey Sweeney SS | DET
Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Taking seat against lefty
Sweeney is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Sweeney will join fellow left-handed hitters Kerry Carpenter and Colt Keith on the bench for the series opener while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the bump. Though Sweeney started in both of the previous two contests and has been seeing semi-regular run at shortstop since being called up from Triple-A Toledo on Aug. 10, he's slashing just .205/.225/.359 over a stretch of 16 games. Sweeney could be at risk of a demotion or a move to a reserve role once outfielder Parker Meadows (quadriceps) is activated from the 10-day injured list, which could result in Zach McKinstry and Javier Baez seeing more playing time at shortstop.

Colt Keith 3B | DET
Tigers' Colt Keith: Sitting against southpaw
Keith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
After starting in each of the Tigers' last six games, the left-handed-hitting Keith will retreat to the bench while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the hill for the series opener. Keith is slashing just .143/.200/.167 over 45 plate appearances versus lefties this season.

Kerry Carpenter RF | DET
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Idle against lefty
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
After starting in each of the Tigers' last nine games, the left-handed-hitting Carpenter will retreat to the bench while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the hill for the series opener. Carpenter is slashing just .196/.222/.353 over 54 plate appearances versus lefties this season.

Jarren Duran LF | BOS
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Taking seat Monday
Duran is not in Monday's lineup against the Guardians, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Duran sat out only two games in August, but he'll be out of the lineup against a lefty starter (Parker Messick) for the second straight matchup. Nate Eaton will step in for Duran as Boston's starting left fielder.

Gleyber Torres 2B | DET
Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Reaches three times in win
Torres went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Royals.
Torres ended August on a high note, going 6-for-13 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI during the three-game series in Kansas City. For the season, the infielder is batting .265 with a .767 OPS to go along with 14 home runs, 63 RBI and 69 runs scored. The RBI match last year's regular-season total he posted with the Yankees, and the 14 long balls are just one shy of his 2024 tally.

Osvaldo Bido RP | CHW
Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Used in bullpen Saturday
Bido struck out a batter and allowed two earned runs on three hits and no walks over 2.1 innings of relief in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Rangers.
Bido made a three-inning start in his last appearance Tuesday against the Tigers, but he shifted back to the bullpen over the weekend and looks poised to serve as a reliever moving forward. Rookie Mason Barnett entered the Athletics rotation Saturday, and Luis Severino (oblique) is set to be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, so the team won't have a starting spot available for Bido.

Carson Williams SS | TB
Rays' Carson Williams: Ends hitless stretch
Williams went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Nationals.
Williams entered Sunday's game in a minor slump, going hitless in his last three starts while also striking out six times in 11 at-bats. He had a strong performance Sunday, however, drawing a bases-loaded walk before coming around to score in the second inning. Williams is hitting .250 with a home run, a stolen base, six RBI and five runs scored across his first eight big-league games.
