  • Miguel Vargas 3B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Could return Tuesday

Manager Will Venable said Saturday he "wouldn't be surprised" to see Vargas (hand) be activated from the 10-day injured list during a three-game series against the Rays that starts Tuesday.

Vargas has been on the shelf since Aug. 29 due to a sprained left hand he sustained during a collision with a baserunner while playing first base. According to Venable, Vargas' rehab has been going well, and the 25-year-old could rejoin the active roster as soon as Tuesday.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Closing in on 40 steals

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Rays.

The Guardians made Shane Baz pay for the HBP in the fourth inning, as Ramirez stole second base and scored Cleveland's first run. The stolen base was his first in 16 games and 37th of the season, putting him within reach of a second consecutive campaign with at least 40 steals.

  • Pierson Ohl RP | COL

    Twins' Pierson Ohl: Promoted Sunday

The Twins recalled Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Ohl was called up for his MLB debut in late August and had a 5.66 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 20.2 innings (seven appearances) before being sent back to Triple-A. The right-hander is now back in the big leagues and is likely to operate as a long reliever.

  • Mike Tauchman CF | NYM

White Sox's Mike Tauchman: Back in lineup

Tauchman (soreness) will start in right field and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against Detroit.

Tauchman will return to the lineup for the first time since Tuesday, after general soreness had kept him out of commission for a few days. The veteran outfielder should continue to set the table for the White Sox against right-handed pitching, though he'll likely be held out of the starting nine versus most left-handed pitchers.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Sitting Sunday

Basallo (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The 20-year-old departed Saturday's game after taking a foul tip off his right hand. X-rays on his hand came back negative, so it appears Basallo won't miss extended time. Alex Jackson will step in behind the dish Sunday.

  • Twins' Carson McCusker: Called up from St. Paul

The Twins recalled McCusker from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

McCusker will join the 28-man active roster as a replacement for catcher Ryan Jeffers (concussion), who was placed on the 7-day injured list. The 27-year-old outfielder has slashed .246/.316/.479 with 22 home runs and five stolen bases in 434 plate appearances with St. Paul this season.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Goes on IL with concussion

The Twins placed Jeffers on the 7-day injured list Sunday with a concussion.

Jeffers took a foul tip off the mask Thursday and had been held out of the lineup for Minnesota's ensuing two games. With the backstop now having been diagnosed with a concussion, he won't be eligible to rejoin the Twins until next Friday. Mickey Gasper and Jhonny Pereda will serve as the Twins' options behind the plate while both Jeffers and Christian Vazquez (shoulder) are on the shelf.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Knocks in three

Diaz went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Rangers.

Diaz delivered an RBI double in the sixth inning and followed that up with a single that plated two in the eighth frame. This marked his first multi-hit effort in his last eight starts, though he has managed four extra-base hits in that span (all doubles). Diaz has also come through with timely hits lately, producing 15 RBI across his last 29 starts.

  • Cole Sulser RP | TB

Rays' Cole Sulser: Summoned from Durham

The Rays recalled Sulser from Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Tampa Bay placed Mason Englert (shoulder) on the injured list Sunday, opening up a spot on the active roster for Sulser. Sulser has been at Triple-A since June 19. The 35-year-old right-hander has recorded a 1.30 ERA in 34.2 innings with Durham this season.

  • Rays' Mason Englert: Placed on IL

The Rays placed Englert on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to Sept. 4, due to a right shoulder impingement, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Englert hasn't pitched since throwing two scoreless innings Wednesday against Seattle. The reliever will be eligible for reinstatement Sept. 19. Cole Sulser was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.
