Baez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a triple, two runs and two RBI in the Cubs' 7-4 win over the Mets on Thursday.

It was the 18th long ball of the year for Baez, who touched up Robert Gsellman with a seventh-inning solo blast after hitting his third triple of the season earlier in the game. The 26-year-old had hit a bit of a lull in June, as he was hitting just .229 for the month coming into this game, but he still sports a .286/.324/.551 slash line through 294 at-bats.

Edman went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.

Edman came through with a clutch home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, tying the contest before Miami ultimately secured the victory. The 24-year-old got off to a slow start through his first five games (1-for-6 with a double and a stolen base), but he's racked up three base knocks in the last two days, which figures boost his confidence moving forward.

X-rays on Ahmed's left hand came back negative, and he could return to the starting lineup Friday against the Giants, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Ahmed was struck by a pitch on his left hand during Thursday's matchup, but further tests revealed that he avoided structural damage. His status for Friday's clash will depend on how he feels when he arrives at the ballpark.

Ahmed was removed from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to a left hand contusion.

Ahmed sustained the injury after getting hit by a pitch in the third inning Thursday. While the shortstop appears to have escaped with a bruise, he'll likely undergo further testing in the coming days to confirm the severity of the injury. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's series opener against the Giants.

Manager AJ Hinch said he doesn't think Diaz (hamstring) will "factor into the major-league team" before the All-Star break, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Diaz has been sidelined since May 26 with a left hamstring injury, and the Astros will be without him for at least another three weeks following a setback earlier in the month. With Diaz and Carlos Correa (ribs) both on the mend, Jack Mayfield and Alex Bregman should continue to see the majority of playing time at shortstop for Houston.

Manager Ned Yost said he doesn't think Mondesi (groin) will spend more than 12 days on the injured list, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Mondesi landed on the injured list Thursday with what is being described as a low-grade groin strain. He's eligible to return June 29, and it sounds like the speedy shortstop will be back at or around that date, barring setbacks. In the meantime, Nicky Lopez will likely cover shortstop in Mondesi's absence.

This isn't all too surprising, as Correa has made little progress since landing on the injured list at the end of May with a cracked rib. The shortstop was originally handed a 4-to-6-week return timetable, and he sounds like he's trending toward a return near the back end of that timeline. With Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) also expected to remain sidelined through the All-Star break, Jack Mayfield and Alex Bregman should continue to see the majority of time at shortstop for the Astros.

Mondesi (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

He left Tuesday's game with right groin tightness and will get at least 10 days to rest up. Nicky Lopez will likely move to shortstop while Whit Merrifield moves to second base, at least against right-handed pitching (Merrifield may start at first base against southpaws). Infielder Humberto Arteaga's contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Story was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a sprained right thumb, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.

Story suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, and while X-rays cleared him of any structural damage, the issue is still serious enough to warrant a stay on the shelf. He's set to undergo additional tests and visit a specialist in the coming days, after which a timetable for his return will hopefully come into focus. In the meantime, Brendan Rodgers was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and is a candidate to see time at shortstop in Story's absence.
