  • Jorge Mateo SS | TB

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Nabs two hits, steal in return

Mateo (back/hip) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's loss to the Rays.

After a three-game absence, Mateo drew the start at second base and put together a pair of singles, including a run-scoring knock in the sixth inning. He also picked up his ninth steal earlier in the game, his fourth theft in 18 games since joining the Orioles in early August. Mateo has made the most of his opportunity in Baltimore, slashing .365/.394/.492 with seven multi-hit efforts in 66 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Swipes two bags in win

Lindor went 1-for-4 with a single and two stolen bases in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Nationals.

While Lindor's bat hasn't come around yet since his return from an oblique injury, the shortstop's legs appear to be just fine. The 27-year-old swiped bags No. 9 and 10 Saturday night, while also smacking a base hit. If nothing else, the steals are a sign that the four-time All-Star is feeling OK after an extended stay on the injured list.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Reaches 20-homer mark

Correa went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Saturday against the Rangers.

Correa went yard off Texas starter Kolby Allard in the third inning, depositing one into the left field stands for his 20th homer of the season. It's the fifth time Correa has reached that plateau in his career, and he stands a chance to topple the personal-best 24 homers he hit in 2017. The 26-year-old, who is set to become a free agent following the 2021 campaign, is slashing .275/.370/.479 with 49 extra-base hits and 69 RBI across 516 plate appearances.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Returns to lineup

Story (leg) is starting Saturday against the Dodgers, Megan Garcia of MLB.com reports.

Story didn't appear in Friday's series opener after he aggravated a leg injury Wednesday, but he'll start at shortstop and bat third Saturday. The 28-year-old was in a slump at the plate prior to his one-game absence, as he went 0-for-17 with a walk and six strikeouts across his last five appearances.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

    Dodgers' Corey Seager: Resting Saturday

Seager will sit Saturday against Colorado, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Trea Turner will slide to shortstop with Mookie Betts moving in to start at second base. While that will be Saturday's arrangement, the arrival of Turner hasn't meaningfully cut into Seager's playing time, as his off day Saturday is just his second since Turner was acquired at the trade deadline.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Serving as DH on Saturday

Adames (quadriceps) is batting second as the designated hitter Saturday against the Twins.

Adames hasn't played since exiting Tuesday's game with a quadriceps injury. It's unclear how soon the shortstop will be able to play his position again, but the Brewers might DH him again Sunday to take advantage of the last game in Minnesota and protect Adames' health.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | TB

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Returns to lineup

Mateo (back/hip) is starting Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mateo had sat out the last three games due to soreness in his left hip and lower back. However, the 26-year-old had felt better recently and will start at second base and bat eighth Saturday. The 26-year-old has gone 6-for-13 with a double, two walks and four strikeouts in his last five appearances.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Optioned, joins taxi squad

The Reds optioned Barrero to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday and assigned him to the taxi squad, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The infield prospect has appeared in six games and gone 2-for-12 with a double since being called up Aug. 16. Barrero's roster spot was needed for the versatile Asdrubal Cabrera, who joined the Reds on Saturday after being claimed off waivers.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Joins Triple-A roster

Pena (wrist) was activated off the injured list at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Previous reports indicated that Pena was unlikely to play this season after undergoing surgery on his wrist in April. As it turns out, he'll be able to play for a month at the Triple-A level and could also play fall or winter ball. He's already played six games at the rookie-league level while on a rehab assignment, going 8-for-20 at the plate.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Rays' Joey Wendle: Retreats to bench

Wendle isn't starting Saturday's game against the Orioles, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Wendle has seen his playing time drop against left-handed pitchers recently, and he'll head to the bench with southpaw John Means on the mound for Baltimore. Yandy Diaz will shift to the hot corner while Jordan Luplow starts at first base.
