Corey Seager SS | TEX
Dodgers' Corey Seager: Out of the lineup Sunday
Seager is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres.
Seager rarely sees time off, as the young shortstop has started 124 of 135 games for the Dodgers this season. He'll get a regular maintenance day against lefty Christian Friedrich, however, with manager Dave Roberts electing to avoid the lefty-lefty matchup by awarding Charlie Culberson the start for the afternoon matchup.

Luis Sardinas SS | WAS
Padres' Luis Sardinas: Out of the lineup Sunday
Sardinas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.
Sardinas had just been starting to see regular starts at shortstop, a situation that will only improve following the release of Alexei Ramirez. It will be Alexi Amarista that gets the call for the Sunday afternoon contest, however.

Brandon Crawford SS | STL
Giants' Brandon Crawford: Resting Sunday
Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Crawford didn't receive a day off the entire month of August, so this appears to just be a long overdue maintenance day. Ehire Adrianza will start at shortstop in his place Sunday afternoon.

Javier Baez SS | DET
Cubs' Javier Baez: Not in Sunday's lineup
Baez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.
Baez started the first two games of the series, going 2-for-6 with a double and two strikeouts. He'll take a seat for Sunday's finale, however, allowing Ben Zobrist to move in from the outfield to start at second base.

Dean Anna SS | PHI
Cardinals' Dean Anna: Designated for assignment
Anna was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Sunday.
Anna was serving as organizational depth at the Triple-A level, but the team needed his 40-man roster spot to execute multiple activations Sunday morning. He hasn't seen much action in the majors over the past few seasons anyway, and he posted a .685 OPS for the Redbirds over 106 games in 2016.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Begins rehab assignment Saturday
Diaz (thumb) began a rehab assignment at High-A Palm Beach on Saturday, going 0-for-3 with a walk.
Diaz played the full nine innings and is expected to play in another rehab game Sunday as he looks to work back from the thumb injury. If all continues to go well down on the farm, he could be activated from the DL at some point this week to rejoin the Cardinals. Diaz's return would likely result in Greg Garcia seeing his at-bats fall by the wayside.

Trea Turner SS | PHI
Nationals' Trea Turner: Named NL Rookie of the Month
Turner was named the National League Rookie of the Month for August, the Washington Post reports.
He set a franchise rookie record with 45 hits in the month en route to a .357/.366/.571 slash line with five home runs, 15 RBI, a mammoth 27 runs scored and 11 steals. Turner becomes the third National to win the award after Bryce Harper (who won it twice) and Ryan Church.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Collects four hits in win
Owings finished 4-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Rockies.
The shortstop singled in each of his at-bats, matching a career-high four hits, including an RBI single in the second inning which gave Arizona a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Owings has stolen 15 bases this season -- he was caught stealing for the first time on Saturday -- and owns a .285/.332/.412 line in 323 at-bats.

Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU
Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Begins taking batting practice
Diaz (thumb) took batting practice Friday, Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest reports.
Manager Mike Matheny said that Diaz may head to Double-A Springfield for a rehab assignment in the near future, making a mid-September return possible. Until Diaz is back, look for Jedd Gyorko and Greg Garcia to split time at shortstop.
