Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Blasts two solo shots, steals base Thursday

Owings went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo homers and added a stolen base in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Padres.

This is beginning to look like a breakout season for Owings, whose four homers on the campaign already put him two off a career best. The boost in power coupled with Owings' contributions as a base stealer make him a true five-category threat while he maintains a lofty .325 average for the season. Owings has been the beneficiary of a .379 BABIP -- more than 50 points above his career mark -- but even with some expected regression in batting average to come, he's unlikely to be a liability in the category.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Goes 0-for-3 against Nats

Story went 0-for-3 with a run during Thursday's loss to Washington.

Now sporting a .175/.267/.375 slash line through 90 plate appearances to start the season, Story stands out as one of the biggest early-season bust candidates going. Young players often endure plenty of peaks and valleys early in their careers, through, and Story's monstrous showing last season probably affords him a little longer leash than most. On the flip side, this might also prove to be a buy-low point. He does have the benefit of calling Coors Field home, after all.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Sitting out of Thursday's second game

Diaz is not in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Diaz managed to go just 1-for-6 in Thursday's first game and has gone 1-for-11 over his last two outings. He'll head to the bench for the Cardinals' second game Thursday while Greg Garcia starts at shortstop.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Unleashing beast at Coors

Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two RBI and three runs in Colorado on Wednesday.

He's been killing it in this series at Coors, as Turner's now 8-for-15 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, nine RBI and eight runs in three games. Great news: The Nats draw one more game at Coors on Thursday for Turner to keep padding his stats.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Will be evaluated upon return

Crawford (groin) will be reevaluated upon his return from the bereavement list Friday, Andrew Baggarly of MLB Press Box reports.

Crawford didn't have time to get an MRI before leaving for a family funeral, so he'll get checked out once he returns. If he's forced to hit the disabled list, it will be retroactive to Tuesday. More should be known about his status come Friday.

  • Orlando Arcia 2B | MIN

Brewers' Orlando Arcia: Breaks out against Reds

Arcia went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI during Wednesday's win over Cincinnati.

It was easily the best game of the season for the young shortstop, and the three RBI doubled Arcia's total to six for the year. His glove is going to keep him in the lineup, and Milwaukee is proving to be an admirable offense this year, so there is certainly low-end value. However, expecting significant improvement on Arcia's current .229/.260/.371 slash line will likely prove to be ill-advised.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Placed on bereavement list

Crawford (groin) was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News' Andrew Baggarly reports.

He has to miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven, so he could be back this weekend against the Padres. This happens to coincide with him dealing with a groin injury, so ideally he will also have time to heal while he is attending to personal matters. Kelby Tomlinson was recalled to take his spot at shortstop in the short term.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Records second steal Tuesday

Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants.

The star shortstop's bat has been as advertised this season (.312/.386/.506), but he is also showing a little more speed than he has in the past. He has gone 2-for-2 in steal attempts through 21 games after going 3-for-6 in 156 games last season. It is unlikely that he will suddenly develop 20-steal speed, but if he can get in the 5-to-10 range, it would give his owners an unexpected -- albeit small -- boost in value.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Drives in three runs Tuesday

Owings went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Padres.

Owings was caught stealing for the first time all season, but that won't diminish what was another excellent night for the versatile 25-year-old, who has been a standout performer through the Diamondbacks' first 22 games. The Padres won't be sad to bid adieu to Owings when they leave Arizona following Thursday's game, as he's already racked up four hits and seven RBI in the first two games of the series.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Hits for cycle with seven RBI in Tuesday's win

Turner went 4-for-6 with a double, a triple, a home run, four runs scored and a career-high seven RBI in Tuesday's 15-12 win over the Rockies.

The homer was his first of the year while the cycle was the first of Turner's career, and the ninth in franchise history dating back to the Nationals' days as the Expos. The 23-year-old boosted his batting average 70 points in one night, which isn't unheard of during an April series in Coors Field, and is now slashing .289/.308/.526 through 10 games.
