Dee Strange-Gordon SS | WAS
Mariners' Dee Gordon: Hits in cage
Gordon (wrist) took swings in the batting cage Friday and will likely progress to batting practice in the next few days, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Gordon continues to make steady progress in his recovery from a deep bone bruise in his right wrist. The veteran speedster is already back to participating in fielding work as well, and he may eventually be deemed ready for activation without the need for a rehab assignment if he continues to remain free of setbacks.

Willy Adames SS | SF
Rays' Willy Adames: Much improved in May
Adames, who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a win over the Twins on Friday, hit .284 (25-for-88) with five doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, 10 walks, Friday's steal and 11 runs during May.
Adames finished April with an ugly .200/.265/.300 line, but he started to boost those numbers as soon as the calendar flipped. The young shortstop ultimately netted a 42-point increase in his average during May and also upped his on-base and slugging percentages considerably. With nine doubles, Adames has already exceeded the seven doubles he slugged in 35 additional games last season, and he also laced the first three-bagger of his career during the current campaign.

J.P. Crawford SS | SEA
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Already making progress
Crawford (ankle) is no longer using crutches or a walking boot and has been working out in a pool to reduce swelling, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Crawford just went on the injured list Wednesday after badly rolling his ankle during a rundown Tuesday. The promising shortstop is trying to beat the clock and only remain sidelined for the minimum 10 days, although it looks like a recovery timetable of two weeks remains the best-case scenario.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Royals' Chris Owings: DFA'ed by Kansas City
Owings was designated for assignment by the Royals on Friday.
Owings saw a drastic reduction in playing time during May with only 39 at-bats in 12 games. The 27-year-old was slashing .133/.193/.222 with a 37.9 percent strikeout rate in 145 plate appearances this season, so it's hardly surprising for the Royals to want a new face on the 40-man roster. Cheslor Cuthbert had his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Adalberto Mondesi SS | BOS
Royals' Adalberto Mondesi: Homers, reaches four times
Mondesi went 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk and another run scored in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Mondesi reached base four times and swatted a solo home run off reliever Jeffrey Springs in the seventh inning in yet another successful night at the plate. The 23-year-old has been a fantasy dream so far this season, accumulating six home runs, 42 RBI and 34 runs scored with a .287/.322/.489 line. Of course, those league-leading 18 stolen bases come in handy, too.

Dee Strange-Gordon SS | WAS
Mariners' Dee Gordon: Partakes in fielding work
Gordon (wrist) took ground balls at second base Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Gordon was moved to the 10-day injured list May 21 due to a right wrist bruise, though he's trending in the right direction and was cleared to resume baseball activities Thursday. He'll be eligible to come off the shelf beginning Friday, though he'll need longer than the 10-day minimum before being activated.

Andrew Velazquez SS | TEX
Rays' Andrew Velazquez: Demoted to Triple-A
Velazquez was sent to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Velazquez appeared in just eight games during his most recent stint with the Rays, going 1-for-11 with a double and six strikeouts during those appearances. Christian Arroyo was recalled from Durham to take his place on the roster.

Willy Adames SS | SF
Rays' Willy Adames: Comes through in extras
Adames went 1-for-5 with a game-winning RBI single and a walk in an extra-innings victory over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Adames' single to deep center with the bases loaded in the 11th won the game for the Rays and produced his first RBI over the last six games. Adames' .237 season average still has plenty of room for improvement, but he's been markedly better with the bat this month while raising that figure a total of 37 points since the calendar flipped to May.

Tim Anderson 2B | LAA
White Sox's Tim Anderson: Plunked in return
Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double and was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Royals.
Anderson, who returned to the lineup after missing four games with a wrist injury, was hit with a changeup off the helmet on the second pitch he saw, prompting the ejection of Kansas City pitcher Glenn Sparkman. The ejection appears to be related to the recent history between the White Sox and Royals, who emptied their benches April 17 after a series of incidents involving Anderson. The shortstop later knocked in the game-winning run with an eighth-inning double.
