Rays' Willy Adames: Swats fifth homer

Adames went 3-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees.

The shortstop picked up right where he'd left off at the end of August. Adames has three straight multi-hit efforts, and over his last 10 games he's batting .378 (14-for-37) with a 1.167 OPS. The hot streak has pushed his slash line on the season up to .316/.391/.579 with five homers, 15 RBI and 22 runs through 35 games.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Posts three-hit game

Anderson went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.

The White Sox couldn't muster much offense in the contest, but Anderson was up to his usual production, notching his 11th multi-hit game of the season. The 27-year-old has built upon a breakthrough 2019 campaign by upping his slash line to .345/.385/.600 this season. He has added six home runs and three stolen bases while scoring 26 runs.

  • Indians' Francisco Lindor: Smacks sixth homer

Lindor went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Tuesday against the Royals.

Lindor took Matt Harvey deep in the first inning to notch his sixth homer of the campaign. The performance extended his hitting streak to eight games, four of which have been multi-hit efforts. Overall, Lindor has put together a .270/.325/.446 line with two stolen bases, 18 runs scored and 17 RBI across 160 plate appearances.

Rays' Willy Adames: Finishes August on tear

Adames, who went 3-for-5 with a double in a win over the Yankees on Monday, finished August with a .333/.403/.633 slash line over his final 67 plate appearances.

The hot-hitting shortstop will now look to keep up the stellar work at the plate over the last few weeks of the season. Adames has been putting plenty of good wood on the ball during the aforementioned stretch, belting seven doubles and three home runs while generating an elite 38.5 percent line-drive rate and 46.2 percent hard-contact rate. However, he's also struck out at an elevated 31.3 percent clip and benefited from an unsustainable .472 BABIP over the same period, so some September regression is possible if he doesn't begin making more consistent contact.

  • Royals' Adalberto Mondesi: Sitting amid slump

Mondesi is not in Tuesday's lineup against Cleveland.

It's been a rough season for Mondesi, but things have been particularly bad lately. He is 2-for-33 (.061 average) with a 32.4 percent strikeout rate, one walk and zero extra-base hits over his last eight games. It's a testament to his immense upside on the basepaths that he somehow still has two steals over that stretch, but it's hard to blame the Royals for letting him clear his head for this one. Nicky Lopez will start at shortstop while Whit Merrifield starts at the keystone.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Indians' Yu Chang: Optioned to alternate site

Chang was optioned to Cleveland's alternate training site Monday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Chang had been on the roster since the start of the season but played very sporadically, receiving just 11 plate appearances and grabbing just two hits. Oscar Mercado was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • David Fletcher 2B | ATL

    Angels' David Fletcher: Unavailable Monday

Fletcher (ankle) isn't available for Monday's game against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Fletcher sprained his ankle early in Sunday's contest and will miss his first game of 2020 as a result of the injury. The Angels have an off day Tuesday, and manager Joe Maddon was optimistic that Fletcher would be able to return for Wednesday's contest.

  • Mariners' Dee Gordon: Picking it up at plate

Gordon, who went 2-for-3 and was caught stealing in his one attempt in an extra-innings win over the Angels on Sunday, is hitting .375 (6-for-16) over his last six games.

As can be expected with Gordon, there are no extra-base hits in that sample, but the fact he's been on base at a much better clip than any other time during the season is certainly reason for optimism. The veteran has raised his average 60 points with that surge, yet his .190/.242/.207 season line (62 plate appearances) still has monumental room for improvement.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Rays' Joey Wendle: Records second homer

Wendle went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in a win over the Marlins on Sunday.

Wendle's leadoff 399-foot shot to right field turned out to be harbinger of an offensive barrage for the Rays in their 12-run outburst. The versatile veteran has now hit safely in 10 consecutive starts, a stretch during which he's generated a .325/.341/.525 slash line with five doubles, Sunday's homer, six RBI, one walk and six runs.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Rays' Willy Adames: Blasts grand slam in win

Adames went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and one strikeout in Sunday's win against the Marlins.

The Rays didn't have much trouble driving up the score Sunday, but Adames provided some valuable insurance with his grand slam in the fifth inning. The 24-year-old had been in a bit of a slump recently as he mustered only one hit and one walk with four strikeouts over the past three games. He's struggled with a 32.2 percent strikeout rate this year but is hitting .283 with four home runs and 14 RBI.
