  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Moves into reserve role

Volpe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

While he wasn't optioned back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when Jose Caballero (finger) returned from the injured list Friday, Volpe looks like he'll have to settle for a reserve role in the majors. Volpe will be on the bench for a second straight game after he had started at shortstop in the preceding eight contests, going 5-for-23 with two doubles, a 7:7 BB:K and two stolen bases.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Sitting against righty again

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Monasterio will hit the bench for the third time in four games, with each of his absences coming while Boston has faced right-handed starting pitchers. Though Monasterio appeared to have temporarily taken over as the preferred shortstop when Trevor Story (sports hernia) landed on the injured list last weekend, interim manager Chad Tracy recently said that Marcelo Mayer will become the primary option at the position. Monasterio will vie with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Sogard for playing time at second base while Mayer is occupying shortstop.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Live BP scrapped

Seager (back) was supposed to face live pitching Sunday, but that session has been postponed, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday that Seager's recovery "wasn't where we wanted it to be" after Friday's workout, and thus, plans have changed for the shortstop. "We're trying to figure out the next steps," Schumaker added. Seager now seems highly unlikely to return when first eligible, and his availability for the Rangers' upcoming homestand is in doubt.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Rare day off

Rocchio is not in Saturday's lineup against the Phillies.

This is his first day off since May 5, as Rocchio is in the midst of a breakout season. He is slashing .291/.376/.418 with four home runs, nine steals and an 11 percent strikeout rate in 51 games. Daniel Schneemann is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against Zack Wheeler.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Three more hits in win Friday

Henderson went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 7-4 win over the Tigers.

It was Henderson's second straight three-hit game after he posted a four-hit day last weekend. His bat appears to be heating up with the weather, as Henderson is 13-for-31 (.419) with three doubles, one homer, three RBI and three runs scored over his last seven games, raising his average 32 points. On the year, Henderson is slashing .229/.278/.425 with 10 long balls, 24 RBI, 26 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 14:64 BB:K across 230 plate appearances. Henderson's strikeout rate (27.8 percent) and walk rate (6.1 percent) are the worst marks of his career.

  • Cody Freeman LF | TEX

Rangers' Cody Freeman: Rehab moves to Frisco

Freeman (back) moved his rehab from the Arizona Complex League to Double-A Frisco on Friday, MLB.com reports.

Freeman started at second base for the RoughRiders on Friday and got three plate appearances over five innings before taking a seat. He's played five total games while rehabbing a fracture in his back.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Hits leadoff home run in loss

McGonigle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-4 loss to the Orioles.

McGonigle started the scoring with his third home run of the season to lead off the game. The 21-year-old rookie infielder has slowed down a bit with a .222/.349/.306 slash line across his last 10 contests, though his overall slash line of .285/.393/.419 still looks quite good across the board. McGonigle may continue to have some ups and downs as he adjusts to MLB pitching, but he seems to be locked in as Detroit's preferred leadoff option, giving him a fairly high fantasy floor.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Still targeting upcoming homestand

Seager (back) did some jogging in the outfield at Angels Stadium on Friday and said afterward that it's "definitely the goal" to return for the team's upcoming homestand, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. However, Seager added that he needs to see how his back responds to some workouts before he can resume full baseball activities.

When Seager landed on the injured list, Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said he believed Seager could return May 25 when first eligible, for the start of a seven-game homestand. It sounds like that's still a possibility, though the fact Seager hasn't yet resumed full baseball activities clouds this picture a bit. Seager's production has fallen off a cliff so far in his age-32 season, but his track record as a five-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger suggests he'll find his way eventually.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Goes yard twice Friday

Neto went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's win over the Rangers. He was also hit by a pitch.

Neto went yard in the first at-bat of the game for the Angels, and he later added his second homer in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Chris Martin. Neto is well on pace to hit at least 20 homers for a third straight season, and while he's hitting just .221 on the campaign, his power numbers and overall offensive package compensate for a low batting average. He's hitting .200 but with five homers, nine RBI, 13 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .315 on-base percentage across 20 games since the beginning of May.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Retakes leadoff role

Neto has started at shortstop and batted leadoff for each of the Angels' past five games.

Neto hasn't hit well over that stretch, going just 2-for-20 with a home run, two RBI and a 1:8 BB:K. However, he seems to have retaken the leadoff spot after moving down to sixth in the order for a few days in mid-May. Neto hasn't met expectations with a .720 OPS through 51 contests on the campaign, but he's still managed to produce eight homers, 22 RBI, 32 runs and seven stolen bases.
