Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Lands on 10-day DL
Musgrove (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to March 30, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
It appears Musgrove isn't quite past the shoulder injury that slowed him throughout spring training. This is somewhat surprising, as the 25-year-old was expected to make his season debut Thursday against the Reds after tossing 92 pitches in a minor-league game over the weekend. It's unclear if he suffered a setback or if the Pirates are simply giving him some extra time to recover. Expect an updated timetable for his return to emerge in the coming days. In the meantime, Tyler Glasnow or Steven Brault will now likely step in to start for the Pirates on Thursday. Musgrove won't be eligible to return until April 9, so his Pirates debut will at least have to wait until next week.

Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Could be activated Thursday
Wainwright (hamstring) could make his first start of the season Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Wainwright began the season on the disabled list after suffering a hamstring strain towards the end of camp. The veteran right-hander is set to join the Cardinals for their upcoming series against the Brewers in Milwaukee, and if he's able to toss a bullpen with no issues in the coming days, he could be activated prior to Thursday's home opener, which he was originally scheduled to start. If Wainwright is indeed cleared to return to the mound Thursday, he will have missed just one turn in the rotation while injured.

Rich Hill SP | KC
Dodgers' Rich Hill: Wins first start against San Francisco
Hill (1-0) tossed six shutout innings and allowed just five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in a win Sunday over the Giants.
Hill tossed just 15 first-pitch strikes, but despite nibbling at times, he only needed 82 pitches to finish six innings. Don't expect Hill to go much deeper into games as the season progresses. At 38 years old, the Dodgers will be careful with Hill. As good as he was in 2017, with a 3.32 ERA, Hill averaged just 5.4 innings per start. Expect him to remain effective, but Hill can't be counted on for high-volume innings.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Allows three runs in loss
Matz allowed three runs on four hits and three walks across four innings while taking the loss Sunday against the Cardinals. He struck out four.
Matz worked from behind in the count for much of the day and paid the price on a pair of solo home runs as well as an RBI double spread across three different innings. He managed to punch out four batters, but a trio of walks contributed to his struggles. Matz, who is attempting to bounce back from a miserable 2017 campaign, will look to improve on this showing Saturday against the Nationals.

Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD
Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Pitches well out of bullpen
Glasnow hurled a pair of scoreless innings in Game 2 of Sunday's win, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out two.
He followed up a strong final Grapefruit League stint with an equally impressive showing Sunday. Glasnow is releasing the ball over the top instead of allowing his hand to reach across his body, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports. His four-seam fastball has better movement on it, and the results continue to improve. Glasnow has struggled with control throughout his career, but these recent adjustments give hope he might finally tap into some of his potential.

Trevor Williams RP | TEX
Pirates' Trevor Williams: Blanks Tigers through six
Williams (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings without allowing a hit to earn the win against Detroit on Sunday. He issued five walks and stuck out only one batter.
Williams recorded a respectable 3.96 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 25 starts last season, so this was an encouraging showing to begin 2018. However, while he has the potential to provide serviceable ratios, Williams is unlikely to collect many strikeouts. Additionally, wins could be difficult to come by toeing the rubber for the Pirates. Still, PNC Park is a favorable pitching environment, so being selective with his matchups might be a good approach for the immediate future.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Allows six runs Sunday
Quintana (0-1) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Marlins, allowing six earned runs on six hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out two.
Quintana didn't have great control in this one, as evidenced by the four walks, though one was intentional. The lefty was actually able to get through the first four innings without allowing a hit, but the Marlins touched him up for five runs in the fifth on four hits and two walks. Another run scored in the sixth when Quintana uncorked a wild pitch with a runner on third base. He'll look for better control and improved results in his next scheduled start Saturday in Milwaukee.

Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Will start against Reds on Thursday
Musgrove will make his Pirates debut Thursday against the Reds, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.
Musgrove had been vying for a rotation spot to open the season, but a shoulder injury throughout camp halted those efforts a bit. He tossed a clean outing in a minor-league contest Saturday, however, so the Pirates will bring him up to pitch in the majors on regular rest. Considering he threw 92 pitches Saturday, the right-hander should be face few, if any, limitations.

Kenta Maeda SP | NYY
Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Fans 10 in Saturday's win
Maeda (1-0) picked up the win over the Giants on Saturday, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing five hits and a walk while striking out 10.
The outing wasn't quite as dominant as it looks on paper, as Maeda allowed baserunners in every inning, but he was able to squash any hint of a rally from the Giants. The right-hander will face off with San Francisco again Friday, this time in AT&T Park, and given how sluggish the Giants' offense looked in the opening series, another big performance could be in store for Maeda.

Odrisamer Despaigne SP | MIA
Marlins' Odrisamer Despaigne: Falters in Saturday sequel
Despaigne allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings in the Marlins' 10-6 extra-inning loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
It was Despaigne's second appearance of the day. He worked the tail end of the Marlins' victory of a game that started Friday but extended to 17 innings and ended early Saturday morning. The right-hander admirably ate innings for an overworked pitching staff but faltered against a tough Cubs lineup that picked itself up despite a rough effort from Yu Darvish. Despaigne will await his next assignment for Miami's patchwork staff, but the club only plays on four of the next six days, so he may not start in that window.
