Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Logs strong outing in no-decision

Corbin didn't factor into the decision against the Giants on Friday, despite a strong outing that saw him yield just one earned run on four hits over six innings while striking out five and walking one in a 2-1 defeat for the Diamondbacks.

Corbin certainly pitched well enough in this contest to get his seventh win of the season, but he would have to settle for the no-decision as his teammates couldn't generate much run support for him against Andrew Suarez. Still, it was an encouraging performance for Corbin, who has rebounded over his last two starts coming off a stretch in which he gave up at least five earned runs in three of four outings. He's now given up just one earned run and posted a 17:1 K:BB over his last 13 innings, bringing his ERA down to 3.14 and his WHIP to 0.99 through 106 innings on the season. Both of those would represent career bests by a wide margin for the left-hander if he's able to maintain the pace.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Wins first MLB start

Alcantara (1-0) allowed one run on three hits and five walks with two strikeouts through five innings to pick up the win Friday against the Mets.

It wasn't pretty, but Alcantara was able to finish the fifth inning to get the victory in his debut with the Marlins, his first major league start after making eight relief appearances in 2017 for the Cardinals. Alcantara needed 98 pitches to get through five frames, and just 50 of them were strikes. When he could locate it, his stuff was impressive. He fastball topped out at 97.2 mph and his off-speed pitches, a slider and a changeup, drew five swinging strikes on 53 offerings. If he can't throw strikes, better lineups will punish him, but Alcantara has intriguing stuff and will get the chance to show what he can do in the otherwise barren Marlins rotation. His next turn comes Wednesday against the Rays.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Optioned to High-A

Buehler has been optioned to High-A Rancho Cucamonga, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Buehler looked like he was rushed back into the lineup before he was ready Thursday, when he allowed five runs in one inning of work against the Cubs. The plan will likely be for Buehler to get stretched out at Rancho Cucamonga, and after getting his pitch count back to where it needs to be -- assuming he performs as expected -- he can come back to the majors. Buehler will need to spend at least 10 days in the minors, so expect a return in mid-July. Expect a corresponding move to be announced before Saturday night's game.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Diagnosed with shoulder impingement

Darvish (triceps) was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement and will be re-evaluated in 3-5 days, Bruce Miles of the Chicago Daily Herald reports Friday.

Darvish received a cortisone shot in the shoulder in an attempt to reduce the swelling behind the issue. If all goes well, a mid-July return should still be possible, but it will depend on how he responds to the shot.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Next appearance up in air

Buehler's next appearance and his role in that appearance remain up in the air, manager Dave Roberts said Friday night, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Roberts said earlier Friday that Buehler would take his start Tuesday against Pittsburgh and throw roughly four innings and 60 pitches, if possible. Now it's unclear if Buehler will head to the bullpen or possibly the minor leagues to get stretched out instead. Until the club clarifies the situation, Buehler should still be considered the probable starter Tuesday.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Throws off mound

Strasburg (shoulder) was able to advance to mound work Thursday, throwing 25 pitches off the rubber after throwing off flat ground earlier in the day, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

This marked another step forward in Strasburg's return from right shoulder inflammation, and he will likely increase his pitch count during his next bullpen session. Once he's able to feel confident in his arm strength and ability to mix in off-speed pitches, it's expected that he will head down to the minors for a rehab stint.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Expected to start Tuesday

Manager Dave Roberts told MLB Network Radio that Buehler will start Tuesday against the Pirates.

Buehler made a surprise return from the DL on Thursday, pitching in relief of Clayton Kershaw instead of making his previously scheduled minor-league rehab start. That appearance did not go well (five earned runs in one inning), but Buehler had a 2.63 ERA in his first nine starts and there was little doubt that he would slot back into the rotation eventually. He figures to face limited pitch counts in his next couple starts after throwing only 35 pitches in his return.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Mets' Seth Lugo: Shifts to bullpen

Lugo was moved to the bullpen prior to Friday's game against Miami, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Manager Mickey Callaway reasoned that with Jason Vargas (calf) expected back from the disabled list by the time the Mets need a fifth starter -- versus Philadelphia on July 9 -- Lugo will be more valuable to the team as a reliever over the next couple weeks. In addition, Corey Oswalt was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and will likely remain in the rotation until Noah Syndergaard (finger) is ready to return. Over 26 appearances with the Mets this year, Lugo has posted a 2.76 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with a 63:15 K:BB across 58.2 innings.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Not starting Friday

Manager Mickey Callaway said deGrom will not pitch Friday due to family issues and instead will take the hill Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

In his place, Corey Oswalt will start Friday's series opener against the Marlins. In addition, Seth Lugo will transition into a bullpen role. Look for deGrom to provide another quality outing versus Miami after holding the Marlins scoreless across seven innings of work during a late-May start.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Starts Friday against Mets

Alcantara will make his debut with the Marlins against the Mets on Friday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Though Alcantara has yet to be officially recalled by the team, he is listed as Friday's starting pitcher following another impressive showing with Triple-A New Orleans this past weekend. During eight appearances with the Cardinals last year, he logged a 4.32 ERA and 1.80 WHIP, but this will mark his first start at the major-league level.
