  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Goes seven innings in loss

Hamels (4-2) gave up one run (no earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out four through seven innings to take the loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Hamels couldn't have been much better, delivering seven innings on only 84 pitches. Unfortunately, a throwing error by Willson Contreras led to an unearned run that handed the left-hander the tough-luck loss. He has a 4-2 record with a 3.62 ERA and 8.4 K/9 through 12 starts this season. Hamels will get his next start Friday against the Cardinals.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Suffers fourth defeat

Matz (4-4) took the loss against Arizona on Sunday, completing six innings and giving up five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five.

Matz was victimized by a pair of Arizona home runs to fall behind 3-0 in the first inning, then allowed an additional two runs to cross the plate in the fifth. While the lefty has posted a dominant 1.50 ERA at home this year, Sunday's loss dropped him to 2-4 with a 5.79 ERA on the road. He'll be back at home to face the Rockies on Saturday in his next scheduled start.

  • Merrill Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Fans 10 in win

Kelly (5-6) picked up the win against the Mets on Sunday, allowing one run on six hits in 7.2 innings. He struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.

Kelly was in peak form all afternoon, establishing a career high with 10 strikeouts and limiting the Mets to a single run on a solo shot by Wilson Ramos. The quality start was his fourth of the season and snapped a personal two-game losing streak. The 30-year-old rookie will carry a 4.41 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into his next start Saturday in Toronto.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Improves to 4-4

Senzatela (4-4) yielded one run on three walks and four hits across six innings Sunday, striking out four and earning the win over Toronto.

Senzatela had taken a loss in two of his last three outings, last earning a win on May 12. He allowed a run in the first inning but settled in to keep Toronto quiet for the rest of the afternoon. The righty lowered his ERA to 5.33 in 54 innings, though it's a bit misleading; Senzatela allowed seven or more runs in two starts this year but has registered a 3.33 ERA in his other eight starts after Sunday's outing. He'll look to get over .500 against the Mets in New York on Saturday.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Settles for no-decision again

Teheran pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six, but settled for a no-decision against the Tigers on Sunday.

For the third straight outing, Teheran gave up one or zero earned runs but didn't pitch past the sixth and as a result, he had to settle for a no-decision. Since the beginning of May, Teheran owns a 0.83 ERA, but he is just 1-0 because of short outings and poor run support. Still, owners have to love that Teheran has rebounded from his below-average April. He is 3-4 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 69 strikeouts in 71.1 innings this season. Teheran lines up to make his next start Saturday at the Marlins.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Dealing with hip cramp

DeGrom was pulled from Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks with a hip cramp, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

DeGrom was visited by the athletic trainer and removed after facing another hitter with his hip cramping up, though he said after the game he was fine by the time manager Mickey Callaway came out to make the move. It doesn't seem to be an issue of concern, and deGrom appears as though he'll be ready to take the mound next weekend at home against the Rockies.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Likely to make spot start

Manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Peralta is likely to make a spot start later this week, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The Brewers are being forced to shuffle their starting rotation with Gio Gonzalez (arm) and Jhoulys Chacin (back) landing on the injured list, and Peralta looks to be one of the beneficiaries. Monday's off day means the team won't need an additional starter until Saturday versus Pittsburgh, but the young righty could be slotted in earlier if Counsell wants to provide someone an extra day of rest. Peralta allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits over 3.1 innings during his last appearance Friday.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Bounces back from rough outing

Lorenzen retired all four batters he faced in Saturday's loss to the Nationals, striking out one. He currently has a 3.48 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 31 innings.

This came on the heels of Lorenzen giving up four runs to the Pirates on Wednesday, and he had allowed at least a run in four of his previous five outings in total.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Wins third straight

Urena (4-6) picked up the win Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over six innings while striking out six as the Marlins downed the Padres 9-3.

It was the right-hander's third straight win and fifth straight quality start, and the key has been Urena's ability to keep the ball in the park -- Josh Naylor's two-run shot in the second inning was the first home run he'd served up in that five-game stretch, leading to a 2.53 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 32 innings. Urena will try to stay locked in when he next takes the mound Friday, at home against Atlanta.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Grabs win despite blister concern

Gray (5-4) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays, giving up two hits and three walks over 6.2 scoreless innings while striking out seven.

The Jays managed a small one-out rally in the second inning after Cavan Biggio and Lourdes Gurriel executed a double steal, but Gray ended the threat with two strikeouts and then didn't allow another baserunner until the fifth. The right-hander's night ended after he issued two free passes in the seventh and reported another 'hot spot' on his middle finger, the precursor to a blister. "It really sucks, but it's part of the game," Gray said. "There's always going to be some kind of adversity." Assuming he's good to go, he'll next take the mound Thursday, on the road against the Cubs.
