  • Ian Anderson RP | ATL

Braves' Ian Anderson: Gets camp invite

Anderson will join the Braves' big-league camp this spring.

Anderson has only made five starts at the Triple-A level and may therefore not push for an Opening Day rotation spot, but his debut will likely come at some point his year. He struggled to a 6.57 ERA in five starts for Triple-A Gwinnett in 2019, yet he recorded a strong 2.68 ERA in 21 starts for Double-A Mississippi earlier in the year.

  • Diamondbacks' Mauricio Cabrera: Signs minors deal with Diamondbacks

Cabrera signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-roster invitee Tuesday.

Cabrera recorded a strong 2.82 ERA in his 38.1-inning debut back in 2016 but hasn't been seen in the majors since, due to a combination of elbow issues and poor performance. In 48.0 innings for Double-A Birmingham in the White Sox's system last year, he recorded a 4.50 ERA and a very poor 19.1 percent walk rate.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Resumes throwing

Taillon (elbow) resumed throwing Monday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of The Athletic reports.

Taillon underwent the second Tommy John surgery of his career in August and has already been ruled out from appearing at any point in the upcoming season. The fact that he's already throwing bodes well for his return in 2021, but he still has a long road ahead of him before he's ready to pitch again.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Invited to big-league camp

Rogers was invited to the Marlins' big-league camp Tuesday.

Rogers was taken with the 13th-overall pick back in 2017. In 23 starts for High-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville last season, he recorded a 2.90 ERA, a 26.5 percent strikeout rate and a 5.8 percent walk rate. Just five of those starts came at the Double-A level, though, so he likely needs some more minor-league experience before he's ready to push for a big-league roster spot.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Will join big-league camp

Garrett will take part in the Marlins' big-league camp this spring.

Garrett returned from Tommy John surgery last season to make 20 good starts for High-A Jupiter, striking out 26.9 percent of opposing batters en route to a 3.34 ERA. He'll get the chance to work with the big-league staff this spring, though he's unlikely to join that group on a permanent basis at any point this season.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Set to throw next week

Greene (elbow) is scheduled to begin a throwing program next week, Keenan Singleton of ABC 9 Cincinnati reports.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft, Greene sat out the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. Though Greene was viewed as a potential two-way player coming out of high school, the Reds have thus far chosen to develop the right-hander exclusively as a pitcher. Expect Cincinnati to thus take every precaution with the 20-year-old as he ramps up his throwing program, with Greene unlikely to debut at affiliated ball until around midseason at the soonest.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Cleared to throw off mound

Martinez (shoulder) will begin throwing off a mound Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Martinez underwent offseason shoulder surgery after performing solely as a reliever in 2019. It's unclear how long his shoulder was an issue, but it could help to explain some of his struggles during the postseason. The right-hander expressed a desire to compete for a spot in the starting rotation next season, and he could be ready to do so by spring training if his recovery continues smoothly.

  • Trevor Oaks SP | LAD

Giants' Trevor Oaks: DFA'd by Giants

Oaks was designated for assignment by the Giants on Thursday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Oaks will be removed from the Giants' 40-man roster after being claimed by the team in November. The right-hander made his major-league debut with the Royals in 2018, posting a 7.24 ERA and 1.98 WHIP over 13.2 innings before missing the entire 2019 campaign with a hip injury. The 26-year-old was able to pitch in the Arizona Fall League and should be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Giants' Drew Smyly: Signs with Giants

Smyly signed a one-year contract with the Giants on Thursday.

The southpaw will join the Giants' pitching staff after posting a career-worst 6.24 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 25 appearances (21 starts) with the Phillies and Rangers last season. The deal is worth $4 million over one year, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Smyly will likely compete for a role in the major-league rotation during spring training despite his struggles in 2019.

  • MacKenzie Gore SP | TEX

Padres' MacKenzie Gore: Invited to Padres' camp

Gore was invited to the Padres' major-league spring training Thursday.

Gore made his debut in Double-A last season, posting a 4.15 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP over 21.2 innings. While Gore probably won't open the season in the majors, he'll get the chance to work with the major-league coaching staff and could make his debut in the big leagues at some point in 2020 if he can continue to develop.
