Wood was roughed up for seven runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings to drop to 5-3 on the season in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Angels.

After a 5-0 start to the campaign, Wood has now dropped three straight decisions, with Tuesday's outing representing his worst of the season. The earned runs and walks totals were his highest of the season, while he failed to reach the fifth inning for the first time in 2021. The lefty's strong overall body of work (3.48 ERA, 1.12 WHIP in nine starts) means that his spot in the rotation likely won't be in jeopardy after the rough showing against the Angels, and Wood lines up for a good bounce-back opportunity against a weak Texas offense early next week in Arlington.

The Giants list Gausman (hip) as their probable starter for Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gausman was cleared of a strain or any structural damage to his left hip after undergoing an MRI on Monday, so he doesn't look like he'll be forced to miss a turn through the rotation after he was removed early during his most recent outing over the weekend versus the Dodgers. The 30-year-old has been the unquestioned staff ace for a surprisingly competitive Giants team in 2021, logging a 1.40 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 83:16 K:BB in 70.2 innings through his first 11 starts.

Small is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 38:17 K:BB in 22 innings over five starts with Double-A Biloxi.

Small was tagged for four earned runs over three innings in his first start with Biloxi, but he found his footing quickly, giving up the same number over his last four outings. Walks have been an issue for Small, but punchouts haven't, as he has averaged over a strikeout per inning in all five trips to the mound. Small is one of the Brewers' best pitching prospects and is also 24 years old, so expect him to get a shot to pitch at the Triple-A level at some point this season.

Gutierrez won't pitch Wednesday against the Phillies after the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Since Wednesday's contest will be made up in late June, it's not yet clear when Gutierrez will make his next start. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings in his major-league debut against the Cubs on Friday.

Lauer (1-2) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering seven runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over two-plus innings as the Brewers were downed 10-7 by the Tigers. He struck out five.

The ball was flying at American Family Field as the two teams combined for nine homers, and Lauer took the worst of it. The southpaw has been tagged for eight long balls in only 24 innings this season, leading to a 4.88 ERA despite his strong 27:5 K:BB. However, he'll likely remain in a sixth starter/swingman role for the Brewers as they try to find some consistency at the back of their rotation.

Fried (2-3) took the loss Tuesday as Atlanta fell 11-6 to the Nationals, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out seven.

The southpaw hadn't pitched since May 23 due to a couple games being postponed over the weekend, and Fried looked out of sync as he uncorked three wild pitches and needed 92 pitches (64 strikes) to record only 11 outs. The outing snapped a string of three straight quality starts for Fried, but it's also the third time this season he's been tagged for five earned runs or more, leaving him with a 5.35 ERA and 1.55 WHIP despite a solid 41:16 K:BB through 38.2 innings.

Marquez did not factor in the decision against Texas on Tuesday despite allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings.

The right-hander was excellent in the contest, throwing 57 of 88 pitches for strikes and holding the Rangers without an extra-base hit. The lone run against him came as the result of a walk, single and fielder's choice in the fourth inning. Over his past three starts, Marquez has allowed only two runs and has posted a 21:6 K:BB across 20 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled to come against Oakland at home on Sunday.

Gray (1-4) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Phillies after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while fanning eight across 4.2 innings.

Gray gave solo shots to Ronald Torreyes and Odubel Herrera in the third inning, but the eight strikeouts tied his second-best output of the season in that category. Nonetheless, Gray has now given up at least three earned runs in three of his last four starts. He'll try to bounce back when he makes his next scheduled start in St. Louis this weekend.

Nola (4-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Reds after allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning two across five innings.

Nola didn't have major problems earning his fourth win of the season, but things could've easily gone differently for him, as he didn't miss many bats and the eight hits were his second-highest total of the season. In fact, he's given up at least seven hits in three of his last four starts while allowing at least three runs three times during that stretch, so Nola's not quite pitching at his best. The right-hander is scheduled to start again during next week's home series against Atlanta.
