Gallen (elbow) will be activated from the injured list and start Thursday's game against the Giants, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Gallen last pitched May 7 before being sidelined with a right UCL sprain. He was solid in four of his five early-season starts, but control issues were a persistent problem -- he walked multiple batters in every outing and issued four free passes on two different occasions. Even so, Gallen was an ace last season and will be welcomed back to the top of Arizona's struggling starting rotation.

Oviedo struck out four and allowed six hits in seven shutout innings, not factoring into the decision in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Marlins.

Wednesday's outing was by far the righty's best start of the season to date. Not only did Oviedo yield fewer than two runs for the first time since his April 11 season debut, he also recorded more than 15 outs for the first time in 2021. The 23-year-old was incredibly efficient as well, not issuing any walks and requiring just 87 pitches to get through the seven frames. Oviedo is expected to make his next start Tuesday against the Tigers.

Alcantara (4-6) allowed one unearned run on six hits in 8.1 innings with seven strikeouts and one walk to take the loss in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat against the Cardinals.

The righty had made it through 8.1 shutout innings before Paul Goldschmidt, who had reached on an error, scored the winning run on a Yadier Molina single. Despite not earning the win, Alcantara recorded a third consecutive quality start and the fifth in his last six outings. The lack of run support has led to an unremarkable 4-6 record, but Alcantara's other numbers (3.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 87 strikeouts) have kept him in the conversation with fantasy's elite starting pitchers. He's projected to make his next start Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Carrasco (hamstring) was cleared to restart his throwing program Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Carrasco is ready to ramp up again after he received a platelet-rich plasma injection last week that apparently helped clear up the lingering pain he had been feeling in his strained right hamstring. According to DiComo, Carrasco was able to take part in a more intensive game of catch than is typical for rehabbing pitchers, so the 34-year-old could end up resuming mound work sooner than anticipated following his brief shutdown. The Mets maintain hope that Carrasco will be able to return from the 60-day injured list to make his 2021 debut at some point in July, most likely after the All-Star break.

Gray is expected to miss at least two more turns through the Cincinnati rotation while he recovers from a right groin strain, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "The best feel I have for when he'd come back is almost be like maybe two starts from [Tuesday]," Bell said of Gray's potential return from the 10-day injured list. "So, it might be 10 days away, right in that range."

A clearer target date for Gray's return from the IL could come into focus by this weekend, when Bell said the right-hander will likely throw a side session. Gray's groin injury has already cost him one turn through the rotation, with Tony Santillan getting a call-up from Triple-A Louisville to fill in for him. Santillan will make his first of what will likely be two more turns through the rotation Friday in San Diego.

Reds manager David Bell said that Lorenzen (shoulder) fared well during his bullpen session Tuesday and is on track to return from the 60-day injured list in the first week of July, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Before he strained his shoulder late in spring training, Lorenzen had been competing for a spot in the Cincinnati rotation, but he'll be working out of the bullpen once he's able to complete his rehab program for the injury. Lorenzen will likely throw another bullpen session or two before progressing to facing hitters in live batting practice. After that, Lorenzen may only need to make one or two minor-league rehab appearances before the Reds activate him.

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that Mikolas (forearm) has yet to start a throwing program, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Mikolas hasn't been cleared to resume any activity since receiving a stem-cell injection in late May to address a small calcification of his right flexor tendon. Shildt noted that Mikolas hasn't suffered any setbacks since receiving the injection, but the Cardinals will likely wait at least a full month to see how he's healed before the right-hander starts up a throwing program. Mikolas appears unlikely to return from the 60-day injured list until early August in a best-case scenario.

Muller was recalled by Atlanta on Wednesday.

Muller was added to the 40-man roster in November, and he'll now be in line to make his major-league debut after Tucker Davidson (forearm) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The southpaw made seven starts for Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the year and posted a 4.60 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 31.1 innings.

Gray (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Gray was hopeful that his next throwing session would be a simulated game, but he said that he needs to work on the timing of his delivery before he faces hitters. However, the right-hander said that he feels healthy, and it's encouraging that he'll be able to resume mound work Thursday. A timetable for his return to the major-league rotation isn't yet clear.

Strasburg (neck) played catch in the outfield ahead of Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Strasburg appeared to be throwing lightly, but Wednesday's activity marked the first time that he threw since he was placed on the 10-day injured list June 2. A timetable for his return to game action hasn't yet been established, but the right-hander is scheduled to meet with a specialist soon to evaluate the progress in his recovery.
