  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Nearing mound work

Manager Jayce Tingler said Paddack (oblique) could throw off a mound soon, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Paddack has been throwing off flat ground for nearly two weeks, and he's nearly ready to resume mound work. The 25-year-old is eligible to be activated off the injured list but remains without a timeline for his return. The right-hander may also require a rehab assignment before rejoining San Diego's starting rotation.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Ejected in return Tuesday

Greene (shoulder) started for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday during the third inning, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The 22-year-old was scratched from his start last week due to irritation in the AC joint of his right shoulder, but he was able to retake the mound a week later. However, Greene was ejected during the third frame after throwing a fastball behind Johan Camargo, who hit a homer off him earlier in the contest. Overall the right-hander surrendered four runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk across 2.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Sent to Triple-A

Garrett was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Garrett was tagged for three runs on three hits and six walks over three-plus innings during Monday's start, and he'll return to the minors following the rough outing. The 24-year-old has struggled in eight outings for the Marlins this season with a 5.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 32:20 K:BB across 34 innings.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Expected back Friday

Mikolas (forearm) is expected to return from the 60-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Pirates, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Mikolas missed the start of the season with a shoulder injury and returned to make just a single start in late May before being shut down with a tight forearm. He's now ready to go after making five rehab appearances and will be getting an extra day of rest in his return to major-league action, as his final rehab outing happened Saturday.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Away on paternity leave

Gomber was placed on the paternity list Tuesday.

Players typically miss around three days on the paternity list, and it's already been confirmed Gomber won't start Wednesday against the Padres as previously scheduled. Chi Chi Gonzalez will start in his place that day, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. It's not yet clear if Gomber will skip his turn in the rotation entirely or merely be bumped back by a few days.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Shifts to restricted list

Rogers (personal) was transferred from the bereavement list to the restricted list Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Rogers has been away from the team for two weeks while dealing with an undisclosed private matter. While he's expected to resume throwing soon, he's been out for long enough that he may require a rehab outing before returning to the active roster.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Facing hitters Tuesday

Syndergaard (elbow) is scheduled to face hitters in a live batting practice session Tuesday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Syndergaard resumed mound work in late July, and his progression to facing hitters marks yet another important milestone in his return from Tommy John surgery. The Mets have already suggested that Syndergaard is likely to serve as a reliever once he's activated, and if that is indeed the case, the right-hander shouldn't need too long to ramp up once he begins a minor-league rehab assignment. That being said, Syndergaard still figures to be a week or two away from starting a rehab stint, so he's unlikely to join New York's active roster until September.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Begins playing catch

Kershaw played catch Monday and will continue to do so for a few days to see how his injured forearm responds, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander's throwing session Monday was his first in several weeks. He threw a simulated game July 27 that resulted in general soreness and has been mostly shut down since. There has been some discussion about whether Kershaw will be able to get healthy in time to return as a starter, and how he feels over the next several days should go a long way toward determining the rehab plan from here. Manager Dave Roberts said Monday that the best-case scenario for Kershaw is that he makes a couple starts in September so that he is available to start in the playoffs, per Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Makes return from IL

Atlanta reinstated Ynoa (hand) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Marlins.

Reliever Jacob Webb was dispatched to Triple-A Gwinnett to clear a spot on the active roster for Ynoa, who will be making his first start with Atlanta since May 16 after he was on the shelf for the past three months with a fractured right hand. The 23-year-old was cleared to rejoin the Atlanta rotation after he recently wrapped up a two-week minor-league rehab assignment that culminated with a 4.2-inning, seven-strikeout outing Aug. 11 for Gwinnett. He tossed 83 pitches in that outing, so he shouldn't face any significant restrictions with his workload when he takes the mound Tuesday.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Can't find plate Monday

Garrett (1-2) took the loss Monday as the Marlins were routed 12-2 by Atlanta, giving up three runs on three hits and six walks over three-plus innings. He struck out two.

The 24-year-old southpaw got staked to an early 2-1 lead but his inability to get the ball over the plate quickly led to disaster, as Garrett managed to toss only 39 of 77 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. Trevor Rogers (personal) remains without a timeline to return to the Marlins and Pablo Lopez (shoulder) is only throwing bullpen sessions, but Garrett's 5.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 32:20 K:BB through 34 innings aren't making a strong case for him to stay in the rotation much longer.
