Steele allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings against Colorado on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

Steele allowed plenty of traffic on the bases in the outing, but all five hits against him were singles, and he wiggled out of a few jams to surrender just two runs. He wasn't able to go deep enough to pick up the win, however, as he needed 80 pitches to get through 4.1 frames and allowed two of the final three batters he faced to reach base. The southpaw has been a pleasant surprise early in the season, allowing just two runs and posting a 9:3 K:BB across 9.1 innings across two starts. His next trip to the mound is expected to come at home against Tampa Bay next week.

Brubaker allowed four earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five across 4.1 innings Thursday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.

Brubaker was both hit hard and betrayed by his defense in a three-run first inning. He walked three of the first four batters he faced, which were immediately followed by a pair of singles and an error by Hoy Park in right field. Brubaker settled in from there to turn in a more respectable effort, but even so, he has now issued seven free passes across only 7.1 innings on the season. He'll look to get some improved results in his next outing, which currently lines up to come Tuesday at Milwaukee.

Gibson (1-1) allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Marlins.

Gibson shut out the Phillies through the first three innings. However, he allowed three extra-base hits in the fourth frame -- including a solo home run to Garrett Cooper -- and walked two batters in the fifth to account for his four earned runs. In contrast to his first start of the campaign, Gibson labored mightily by requiring 91 pitches to record 14 outs. He'll face a challenge in his next outing as well, which is currently projected to come Tuesday at Colorado.

Alcantara (1-0) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five across 6.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Phillies.

Alcantara allowed consecutive hits to begin the game -- which resulted in a run crossing the plate -- but he settled in from there to earn his first win of the season. The right-hander had the Philadelphia lineup guessing throughout his start, as he notched 19 swinging strikes across 95 total pitches. After walking five batters in his first start of the season, Alcantara also showed significantly improved control in his outing Thursday. He currently lines up to make his third start of the campaign Wednesday against St. Louis.

Woodruff (1-1) allowed three hits and one walk with two strikeouts across five scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Cardinals.

After a poor start to open the season, Woodruff rebounded with a strong performance to earn his first win. He did not allow an extra-base hit and also retired the final six batters he faced. While Woodruff only managed two strikeouts, he induced 12 swinging strikes on 89 total pitches -- an indication that he was still plenty deceptive. Woodruff currently lines up to make his next start Wednesday against the Pirates.

Morton (1-1) took the loss against San Diego on Thursday, hurling five innings during which he surrendered five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Padres got to Morton early in the contest, tallying three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The right-hander settled down from there and didn't allow any additional runs during his time on the mound, but the damage was too much for Atlanta to overcome. Morton was sharp in picking up a win in his first start of the campaign, so there's little reason to read too much into this poor outing. He'll look to get back on track next week in a tough road matchup against the Dodgers.

Musgrove (1-0) earned the win over Atlanta on Thursday, pitching 6.2 scoreless innings during which he allowed four hits and struck out six.

The Padres jumped out to a five-run lead after two innings, allowing Musgrove to glide through a stress-free outing and secure his first win of the campaign. The right-hander allowed only one extra-base hit and registered a first-pitch strike against 17 of the 23 batters he faced. Over his first two starts of the campaign, Musgrove has posted a 14:0 K:BB while allowing just two runs over 12.2 frames. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come at home against the Reds early next week.

Wainwright (1-1) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven across 4.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Brewers.

Wainwright allowed at least one earned run in each of the first three innings, though only one came off a home run. However, he was tagged for three additional extra-base hits, including two doubles and a triple. Despite the damage, Wainwright racked up seven strikeouts, overcoming the fact that he induced only five swinging strikes across 86 total pitches. He's currently projected to make his third start of the season Wednesday at Miami.

Castillo (shoulder) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Castillo threw a bullpen session Tuesday and responded well, so he'll now progress to the next step of his throwing program. Assuming he continues to pitch without pain, Castillo should go on a rehab assignment soon and could return by late April or early May.

Gore was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Gore will make his major-league debut Friday against Atlanta after Blake Snell (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Snell's injury isn't believed to be particularly serious, so it's possible that Gore will return to the minors following a brief stint with the Padres. However, the 23-year-old is one of San Diego's top prospects and will likely have a chance to remain with the big-league club if he performs well as a fill-in option.
