  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Cubs' Wade Miley: Set for re-examination Monday

Miley (shoulder) will be re-examined Monday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Miley exited Friday's game against the Yankees after three innings due to left shoulder soreness after he spent time on the injured list with a similar issue prior to the matchup. The southpaw said after the game that he didn't want to predict whether he'd require another IL stint, but more information will likely be known after he's re-examined Monday. If he's cleared to make his next start, he tentatively lines up to take the mound at home against the Padres on Wednesday.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Solid showing in loss

Castillo (2-4) took the loss Friday versus the Cardinals. He allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out three in six innings.

Castillo was done in by a poor first inning, where two Reds errors combined to allow the Cardinals to score a second run. He also received no offensive support, as the Reds weren't able to generate a run with four hits and five walks. The right-hander has completed six innings in four of his last five starts, and he's allowed more than two runs only once in that span. He has a 3.23 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB across 39 innings in seven outings. Castillo is projected for a road start versus the Diamondbacks next week.

  • Pirates' Roansy Contreras: Coughs up four runs

Contreras (1-1) yielded four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings Friday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Atlanta.

Most of the damage against Contreras came from Dansby Swanson's two-run shot in the third inning. Atlanta later tacked on another run in each of the fourth and fifth frames. It was his first appearance allowing more than two runs and his ERA climbed to 2.57 through 28 frames. Contreras is projected to start in St. Louis next week.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Struggles mightily in loss

Ashby (1-5) allowed six runs on 13 hits and a walk while striking out two in 4.2 innings to take the loss during Friday's game against the Nationals.

Ashby was dominant over his final two starts in May, as he logged a 0.77 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 17 in 11.2 scoreless innings during that time. However, he's given up 10 runs in 10.2 innings over his first two outings in June. The southpaw still handled a significant workload Friday, as he threw 104 pitches (77 strikes). Ashby tentatively lines up for a tough matchup on the road against the Mets on Thursday.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Dealing with right wrist contusion

Lopez has been diagnosed with a right wrist contusion after exiting Friday's game against the Astros, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Lopez was hit by a comebacker in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday and immediately removed from the game, but he underwent X-rays that came back negative. The right-hander also threw a warmup pitch in an attempt to stay in the game Friday, so he should be considered day-to-day for now. If Lopez is cleared to make his next start, he tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

  • Braves' Spencer Strider: Fans eight in victory

Strider (2-2) allowed four hits and a walk over 5.2 scoreless innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Pirates.

Strider gave up just four singles while turning in his first shutout appearance as a starter. His eight punchouts tied a season high from his May 6 outing against the Brewers. The 23-year-old touched triple-digits with his fastball while forcing 18 whiffs. Strider now owns a 2.35 ERA with a 57:19 K:BB through 38.1 frames. He's lined up to start in Washington next week.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Removed with apparent wrist injury

Lopez was removed from Friday's game against the Astros in the bottom of the fifth inning after being hit by a comebacker on his right wrist, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Lopez sustained his injury with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning and threw a warmup pitch in an attempt to stay in the game, but he was ultimately removed by a trainer. He was productive prior to his departure, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings. The exact nature and severity of Lopez's injury aren't yet known.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Giants' Matthew Boyd: Scheduled to face hitters Monday

Boyd (elbow) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Boyd has been throwing 40-pitch bullpen sessions since April and has been able to mix in all of his pitches. The southpaw has spent the start of the season recovering from left flexor tendon surgery that he underwent last September, but he'll likely be able to begin a rehab assignment soon before rejoining the Giants in late June or early July.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Giants' Alex Cobb: Resumes playing catch

Cobb (neck) has resumed playing catch, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Cobb has been sidelined for a week due to a neck strain, but he's been throwing off flat ground early during his IL stint. The right-hander still has several steps to take to ramp up his workload, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to rejoin the Giants.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Slated for rehab start Saturday

DeSclafani (ankle) will make a rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

DeSclafani isn't eligible to return from the injured list until at least late June, but he's hopeful that he'll be cleared to rejoin the Giants after making just two rehab starts. The right-hander posted a 6.08 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 13.1 innings over three starts prior to sustaining his ankle injury, and he's trending toward returning after a relatively minimal stay on the 60-day IL.
