Gray didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 8-3 victory over the Dodgers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings.

Gray settled down after surrendering a leadoff home run to Mookie Betts to prevent Los Angeles from scoring over the next three frames; however, he faltered in the fifth as two more runs scored on three hits. The 24-year-old continues to miss bats with 14 swinging strikes on 94 pitches and he has now struck out 30 batters in 22.2 innings across four starts this month, though he's also permitted 16 runs during the stretch. Gray carries a 4.45 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 112 strikeouts in 97 innings into his next start, scheduled for next week against the Mets.

Rodon (8-6) took the loss during Tuesday's 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in six innings.

Rodon pitched well Tuesday -- surrendering only six baserunners -- but was stung by the home run, permitting a Sergio Alcantara two-run shot in the second inning and a Christian Walker three-run homer in the third. Despite the loss, Rodon struck out at least seven batters for the fifth straight start and has now fanned 43 batters across 30 frames during the span. The 29-year-old carries a 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP into his next start, currently lined up for Sunday Night Baseball against the Cubs.

Marquez (6-8) allowed a run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six in six innings, taking the hard-luck loss Tuesday versus the White Sox.

This was just the third time all year Marquez has limited the opposition to one run or fewer, but he ended up with nothing to show for it as the Rockies' bats were kept quiet. This was also his third straight quality start. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 5.25 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 91:38 K:BB across 109.2 innings, but he's been trending in the right direction lately. He's lined up for a home start versus the Dodgers this weekend, who have put up 10 runs in 16.1 innings across three games against Marquez this season.

Small allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings in a 7-6 victory Tuesday against Minnesota. He didn't factor into the decision.

Small was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to start Tuesday's game and struggled in his return to the majors. Byron Buxton welcomed him back by launching a solo shot to lead off the game and the Twins added two more runs in the third. Only 33 of his 63 pitches went for strikes and he has now walked eight batters in 6.1 innings across his two big-league starts. With two off days over the next week, the Brewers might not need Small to make another start any time soon, and he could return to Nashville shortly.

Clevinger struck out five in seven innings while allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in a 6-4 extra-inning victory Tuesday in Detroit. He did not factor into the decision.

Clevinger cruised through the first six innings, holding the Tigers scoreless and scattering three hits and a walk. Miguel Cabrera led off the seventh with a double and Jeimer Candelario followed with a two-run homer. Clevinger needed just 92 pitches to complete the seven frames. It was the fourth time in his last five outings where he pitched at least six innings. For the season, he now has a solid 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB in 53.1 innings across 11 appearances. His next start will likely be early next week against Colorado.

Walker (8-2) earned the victory Tuesday against the Yankees, striking out three in six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits, a walk and a hit batsman.

Walker was greeted by back-to-back homers by Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo in the first inning. After that, Walker pitched around trouble with the only damage being a fourth-inning RBI groundout. It was the eighth straight quality start for the 29-year-old and he's gone 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 51:11 K:BB in 51 innings in that span. His next start will likely be early next week in Washington.

Cavalli (finger) will start for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Cavalli exited his last start for Rochester on July 12 with a blister-like issue on his finger, but he'll return to the mound Wednesday for the Red Wings. The 23-year-old, who is Washington's top pitching prospect, has a 4.31 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 74:27 K:BB across 71 innings this year.

The Cardinals, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, will wait a week before deciding whether or not Matz will need surgery on his injured left knee.

It was reported Sunday that Matz has a torn MCL in his left knee, and if he goes under the knife he will miss the rest of the season. There remains a chance he could recover without undergoing a procedure, though, and the Cardinals will wait and see how things play out. While he could still pitch again in 2022, Matz is looking at a minimum 4-to-6 week absence regardless of the final decision that is made.

Shuster was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Shuster shined at the Double-A level this season, posting a 2.68 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 106:22 K:BB over 90.2 innings, so Atlanta decided to bump him up to the Triple-A ranks. Shuster will turn 24 in early August, so there's a chance this is not his final promotion of the season.

Gore (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Gore left Monday's outing with a sore left elbow, and while it's not yet clear exactly what type of injury he is dealing with, he will miss at least two weeks. Dinelson Lamet was recalled to take Gore's place on the roster.
