The Reds are going with a six-man rotation out of the All-Star break through the trade deadline, meaning that Castillo's start Wednesday against the Marlins could be his final one with the team, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Castillo is the most prominent starter likely on the pre-deadline trade market, and given the Reds' non-contending status and the fact it's unlikely they will contend in the near future, he is a good bet to get dealt sometime in the next week. The team will go back to a five-man rotation following the deadline.

Buehler (elbow) played catch Monday.

Buehler made 20 throws during the session, his first action since sustaining a Grade 2 flexor strain in his right elbow June 10. The right-hander is still a long way from a potential return, but Monday's action is the first step toward joining the Dodgers' rotation at some point later this season.

Suarez didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 6-4 win over Atlanta, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.

A two-out throwing error by Johan Camargo in the second inning led to all three Atlanta runs against Suarez, otherwise the lefty might have collected his eighth win of the year. Instead, he exited after 78 pitches (50 strikes) with the score tied 3-3. Suarez has not allowed an earned run in two starts since coming off the IL just before the All-Star break. He now owns a 3.84 ERA on the year to go along with a 1.39 WHIP and 72:34 K:BB through 89 innings.

Falter is slated to start Friday's game in Pittsburgh.

He'll be making his second straight turn after he was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley following the All-Star break to fill the injured Zach Eflin's (knee) spot in the rotation. Falter ended up taking the loss in Sunday's game against the Cubs, working five innings while allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks. Though he'll get the chance to rebound against the Pirates this weekend, Falter may not have much longevity in the rotation if he's unable to markedly improve upon the 5.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP he's provided in his 33.0 big-league innings on the season. Eflin appears headed for a prolonged absence, but the Phillies could look to the trade market ahead of the Aug. 2 to seek a potential upgrade over Falter for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Fried didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies, giving up three runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

The southpaw tossed 69 of 103 pitches for strikes en route to his sixth quality start in his last seven outings and his 15th of the season. However, Fried got denied his 11th win when A.J. Minter served up a game-winning homer to Bryson Stott in the bottom of the eighth inning. Fried will take a 2.73 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 117:22 K:BB through 125.1 innings into his next start.

Lodolo (3-3) picked up the win in Monday's 11-2 rout of the Marlins, giving up two unearned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

The nine punchouts were a career high for the rookie, and the quality start was his first in seven trips to the mound in the big leagues. Lodolo sports an impressive 30.5 percent strikeout rate through his first 32.1 innings for the Reds, but his 4.73 ERA and 1.67 WHIP haven't kept pace.

Rogers (4-10) took the loss Monday as the Marlins were routed 11-2 by the Reds, coughing up six runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out five.

Miami gave the southpaw an early 1-0 lead, but it evaporated quickly. Rogers managed only six swinging strikes among his 84 pitches, and he hasn't produced a quality start since late April. He'll take a 5.85 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 83:41 K:BB through 87.2 innings into his next outing.

Ashby (2-8) took the loss against Colorado on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over 7.0 innings.

Ashby racked up 17 swinging strikes and completed a season-high seven innings in the contest, but he got no support from his offense and ended up with his eighth loss. This was nonetheless a positive performance for the left-hander, as he notched his first quality start since May 30. Ashby's 4.38 ERA on the season reflects the inconsistent nature of his campaign, but he has shown flashes of his potential with 92 strikeouts over 76.0 innings.

Freeland (5-7) earned the win over Milwaukee on Monday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven scoreless innings.

The Brewers managed only four hits -- all of which were singles -- against the veteran left-hander, and no Milwaukee batter reached second base until the ninth inning. Freeland threw 58 of 99 pitches for strikes and finished with his most punchouts since May 18 -- a span of 10 starts. He entered Monday having allowed 15 runs in 16 innings in July, so this was a nice bounce-back in his first start of the second half. Freeland still carries a mediocre 4.64 ERA on the campaign.

Gonsolin (11-1) took the loss Monday versus the Nationals. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings.

After allowing no more than three runs or two earned runs in his first 16 starts, Gonsolin has been tagged for nine runs in 11 innings on either side of the All-Star break. His undefeated run came to an end Monday, as he was responsible for all of the Nationals' fifth-inning rally. The loss was the right-hander's first in over a calendar year -- his last one was July 19, 2021 against the Giants. Despite the recent regression, he still has a 2.26 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 90:27 K:BB across 99.2 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, though it's projected to be a tough road outing in Colorado this weekend.
