Pepiot will start Sunday against San Diego, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Pepiot owns a mediocre 4.02 ERA through his first seven major-league starts, with a high 16.1 percent walk rate and a low 21.3 percent groundball rate standing as significant red flags. The Dodgers have a commanding lead in the NL West, however, so they can afford to send him out for a spot start in order to give their other starters some extra rest.

Wood was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement Saturday.

Wood has been dealing with the issue for a while, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports, which may explain his 13.86 ERA over his last three starts. The move was made retroactive to Thursday, so Wood will be eligible to return Sept. 16, but the Giants haven't decided whether or not to shut him down for the season. The team has been all but eliminated from playoff contention, as it sits 10 games back of the sixth seed, so Wood may simply start his offseason early in an effort to be as healthy as possible heading into next season.

Oviedo allowed two hits and three walks while striking out four across three scoreless innings Friday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

Oviedo made his first start with the Pirates since being acquired at the trade deadline. He effectively limited runs and generated nine swinging strikes on 77 pitches. On the other hand, he also issued three walks and had 22 pitches fouled off, racking up his pitch count and forcing him into a short outing. Given the Pirates' lack of competitiveness, they are likely to continue to give Oviedo opportunities to work out of the rotation to close the campaign.

Morton (7-5) picked up the win in Friday's 8-1 victory over the Marlins, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

The veteran righty served up a solo shot to Jerar Encarnacion to lead off the third inning, but otherwise Morton was dominant and fell short of his 10th quality start of the year only after walking a batter with two outs in the sixth and getting the hook. In six outings since the beginning of August, Morton sports a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 49:10 K:BB through 36 innings.

Alcantara (12-7) took the loss Friday, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over five innings as the Marlins fell 8-1 to Atlanta. He struck out three.

The right-hander served up multiple homers for the first time since June 24 and for only the third time all season. Alcantara's numbers on the year remain excellent, but since late July he's been alternating brilliant starts with poor ones, resulting in a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB through 46.1 innings over his last seven outings. If the pattern holds, he should dominate his next opponent, which tentatively lines up to be the Phillies next Thursday -- one day after his 27th birthday.

Miller took the loss for Triple-A Oklahoma City against Round Rock on Thursday, but he struck out 14 batters while allowing two runs on two hits and a walk over six innings.

Miller was electric in the outing, recording a professional career high with 14 punchouts. He finished the start with eight consecutive strikeouts but got no offensive support and was saddled with the loss. Miller has been impressive through three Triple-A appearances, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 24:3 K:BB over 18.2 innings.

Peterson didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-3 win over the Nationals, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.

The southpaw tossed 58 of 95 pitches for strikes in a solid outing, but the Mets' offense didn't take the lead for good until the bottom of the sixth inning. Peterson has a 3.38 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 16 innings over his last three starts, but with Carlos Carrasco (oblique) set to rejoin the rotation Sunday, he could move into a long relief role over the final weeks of the season.

Gray (7-9) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on six hits and four walks over five innings as the Nationals were downed 7-3 by the Mets. He struck out two.

Four of the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including homers by Eduardo Escobar and Pete Alonso. It's the sixth time in his last nine starts Gray has served up multiple long balls, and he carries a shaky 6.08 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 3.4 HR/9 and 54:22 K:BB through 47.1 innings over that stretch.

Gibson (9-6) took the loss Friday, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks over 1.2 innings in a 13-1 loss to the Giants. He struck out two.

After a 40-pitch first inning, Gibson handed out a couple more free passes in the second before Joc Pederson cashed in with a three-run homer. In total, Gibson needed 65 pitches to record five outs. He had been on a nice run coming into Friday's game, posting a 2.41 ERA over his previous six starts, but this was a reminder of the inconsistency and downside we've seen with Gibson throughout his career.

Cobb (5-6) earned the win Friday, allowing three hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings in a 13-1 victory over Philadelphia. He struck out seven.

The Giants got to Kyle Gibson early and Cobb cruised from there en route to his fifth win. Cobb now sits with a 2.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 10.2 K/9 in eight starts since the All-Star break (47.2 innings), and the underlying numbers suggest there may be even more improvement coming to his ERA. Cobb's 2.85 FIP this season would rank seventh in all of baseball if he had enough innings to qualify.
