Lauer did not factor into the decision against the Marlins on Thursday, striking out nine over five scoreless innings with one hit and zero walks allowed.

After needing 66 pitches to get through 2.2 innings in his return from the IL in his last start, Lauer bounced back in a big way by holding Miami to one hit. He needed just 71 pitches to complete five innings and record nine strikeouts, his highest total since July 4. The bullpen went on to blow the game and cost Lauer the win, but the strong start was an encouraging sign for the southpaw. He will take a 3.83 ERA into his next start.

Gonsolin (forearm) is expected to return from the injured list to start Monday's game against the Rockies, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Gonsolin has been out for a month with a strained right forearm, but it looks like he'll make it back in time for one tune-up start as the Dodgers get ready for the postseason. He threw only two innings in his lone rehab start Tuesday, however, so he'll likely be limited to three or four frames in his return.

Sanchez will undergo surgery for right shoulder arthroscopic bursectomy Oct. 5, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Sanchez also underwent shoulder surgery in July of 2021 but had recently resumed throwing from 60 feet after receiving a cortisone shot in late August of this year. While it's not yet clear whether the right-hander suffered a setback that led to his upcoming procedure, he's expected to be back in action in time for spring training in 2023.

Dunn (shoulder) struck out four over three scoreless innings in his rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Louisville. He allowed no hits and issued two walks in the 46-pitch outing.

According to MLB.com, Reds manager David Bell relayed that Dunn said he felt the best he has at any point this season following Tuesday's rehab appearance, suggesting the right-hander is no longer experiencing any discomfort in his right shoulder. Cincinnati has already set its rotation for the remaining six games of the season, so Dunn will work out of the bullpen once activated from the 15-day injured list. Bell said that Dunn is expected to rejoin the Reds in Chicago over the weekend, so he could be activated at some point during the team's series with the Cubs.

Gonsolin (forearm) struck out two over two scoreless innings Tuesday in his rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He allowed one hit and no walks in the 27-pitch appearance.

Though Gonsolin looked sharp in his first game action in more than a month, his light pitch count means he likely won't be ready to handle a typical starter's workload if the Dodgers choose to activate him from the 15-day injured list rather than having him make another rehab appearance. Since the Dodgers have already secured the top seed in the National League playoffs and won't open their postseason schedule until Oct. 11, Gonsolin will still have just under two weeks to build up his pitch count through Los Angeles' remaining regular-season games and/or simulated games.

Cabrera (ankle) is listed as the Marlins' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game in Milwaukee.

Cabrera's inclusion on the Marlins' upcoming pitching schedule suggests that the strained right ankle he sustained in his last outing Sunday against the Nationals isn't anything too worrisome. The right-hander wrapped up September with a 2-2 record, 4.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across 24.2 innings over his five starts.

Syndergaard will start Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Syndergaard last pitched Sept. 21 and fired two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but he'll briefly return to the rotation for Friday's twin bill. The right-hander struggled in his last four starts prior to the move to the bullpen with a 6.14 ERA across 22 innings.

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Mets. He struck out six.

Luzardo was pitching a shutout until he allowed a two-run homer to third baseman Eduardo Escobar with no outs in the seventh inning. The lefty has pitched at least six innings in seven of his last eight starts while allowing two runs or fewer six times during that same stretch. The 24-year-old is significantly better away from Miami, recording a 2.64 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 58 innings compared to a 4.95 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 36.1 innings at home.

Walker did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings against Miami. He struck out eight.

Walker pitched a pretty good game aside from the two-run homer he surrendered to outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to open the scoring with two outs in the fourth inning. The righty has allowed a homer in five straight games, posting a less-than-stellar 4.15 ERA over 30.1 innings.

Woodruff (13-4) earned the win Wednesday without allowing a run on five hits and one walk over six innings in a 5-1 victory over the Cardinals. He struck out 10.

Woodruff did not allow an extra-base hit in his stellar six innings Wednesday night. The righty has been spectacular during his last five starts, posting a 1.36 ERA and 0.82 WHIP over 33 innings; however, the 29-year-old has allowed 10 home runs over his last 10 outings.
