Verlander didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees, allowing one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The 40-year-old righty dueled Gerrit Cole to a 1-1 tie through six frames before both aces handed things off to their bullpens. Verlander continues to alternate sharp performances with shaky ones -- he has four quality starts in eight trips to the mound this year but has yet to produce two in a row, and he's surrendered 16 runs in 13 innings during his last three off starts. He'll try to break that pattern in his next outing, likely to come early next week in Houston.

Gomber (4-6) took the loss Wednesday as the Rockies were downed 6-3 by the Red Sox, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over six-plus innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw was nursing a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, but back-to-back singles chased Gomber from the game, and he had to watch the bullpen melt down behind him. The quality start was his first in over a month and fifth of the season, but he's also had six outings in which he coughed up five runs or more. Unsurprisingly, most of the disasters have come at home -- he sports a 4.60 ERA on the road, but a 9.40 mark at Coors Field. Gomber's next start will likely come early next week in Cincinnati.

Kershaw allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision Wednesday in the Dodgers' 8-4 loss to the White Sox.

Home runs by Jake Burger and Luis Robert accounted for the damage on Kershaw's line. This was just the fourth time he's allowed multiple homers this season. The veteran southpaw has turned in three straight quality starts after enduring a rough patch to close out May. Kershaw is at a 2.95 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 98:21 K:BB over 82.1 innings through 14 starts. He's lined up for a road start versus the Angels next week.

Perez (4-1) allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six over six scoreless innings to earn the win in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Mariners.

With reports of Perez being the likely roster casualty for when Trevor Rogers (biceps) returns, the 20-year-old right-hander did his best to make a case to stay on the roster. This was Perez's longest start of the season, and it was arguably his most dominant yet. He's shown little trouble with major-league hitters, posting a 1.80 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB over 35 innings across seven appearances. The idea behind sending Perez down would be workload management -- he's at 66 frames this season after tossing just 77 innings last year and 78 the year before. Rogers experienced soreness in his non-throwing shoulder over the weekend, which might be enough to buy Perez at least one more start in the majors, which is tentatively lined up to be at home versus the Blue Jays next week.

Bido didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Cubs after allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six across four innings.

After letting in a run in the first inning, Bido settled down to deliver three scoreless, one-hit frames in his MLB debut before the Pirates turned the game over to the bullpen. The 27-year-old Bido posted a pedestrian 4.55 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP through 55.1 innings in Triple-A this season, though his 56 strikeouts offer some intrigue. Brito will likely get at least one more turn through the rotation after the Pirates shifted Roansy Contreras to the bullpen. Bido tentatively lines up for a rematch with the Cubs early next week.

Wacha (7-2) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out five over 6.2 shutout innings to earn the win in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Guardians.

Wacha was excellent, and he's logged 12.2 consecutive scoreless innings over his last two starts. This is the seventh time this season he's limited opponents to one run or less, and six of those have been scoreless efforts. He's been scored on in just three of his last eight outings. The veteran right-hander now has a 2.89 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 69:21 K:BB through 74.2 innings over 13 starts. Wacha is lined up to make his next start on the road in San Francisco.

Montgomery did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in a 8-5 loss against the Giants. He struck out seven.

It wasn't a pretty start for Montgomery, as he failed to retire any of the first five batters he faced in the contest before escaping the inning with only two runs allowed. He settled in after that, however, retiring 11 consecutive hitters between the second and sixth innings, five via strikeout. Unfortunately for Montgomery, Giovanny Gallegos was unable to hold the lead in the ninth, leaving Montgomery stuck with another no-decision. Wins have been hard to come by for the left-hander, as he's been hit with a loss or no-decision in eight starts this season in which he's allowed three runs or fewer.

Rea (3-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out four.

Rea unraveled in the third inning, giving up a one-out double to Edouard Julien before walking Donovan Solano on four straight pitches. They would both come around to score on a Carlos Correa triple, leading to a four-run inning for Minnesota. The right-hander walked three batters for the second time in three starts this month after issuing only seven free passes throughout all of May (five starts). He had also won each of his last three decisions coming in after starting the season 0-3.

Atlanta returned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett following Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers.

Dodd was called up Wednesday to start Game 2 and ended up allowing all five of Detroit's runs across four innings in a 6-5 Atlanta win. The 25-year-old lefty now holds a 7.40 ERA in the majors across 24.1 innings and will return to Triple-A where his numbers aren't much better (7.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP through 35.2 innings).

Darvish will make his next scheduled start Friday against the Rays, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Darvish was on turn to pitch Thursday versus the Guardians, but he and Ryan Weathers will flip-flop spots. It's a big downgrade in matchup for Darvish, but you can understand it from the Padres' perspective in not wanting to throw Weathers against Tampa Bay.
