Woodruff (4-1) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings against the Pirates. He struck out six.

Woodruff logged his longest outing of the year, limiting Pittsburgh to just two singles and two walks en route to his third consecutive quality start. In six outings since returning from the injured list Aug. 6, the burly right-hander has posted a 3-1 record with a 2.78 ERA, a minuscule 0.76 WHIP and an impressive 43:9 K:BB across 35.2 innings. Woodruff is tentatively scheduled to face the Marlins in Milwaukee early next week.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Kershaw is pitching through "continued left shoulder trouble" but will play through the injury down the stretch, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Roberts added that Kershaw's shoulder is affecting both his velocity and command. However, giving him an extended rest between starts wouldn't help the issue, so Kershaw will continue to pitch as scheduled in the Dodgers' rotation unless his condition worsens. The 35-year-old ace gave up three runs over five innings during his start Tuesday against Miami and didn't factor into the decision en route to a Marlins victory.

Contreras (shoulder) is expected to return to the Triple-A Indianapolis rotation this week, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Contreras was scratched from his last scheduled start Friday versus the Triple-A affiliate of the Blue Jays due to stiffness in his right shoulder, but it's apparently not a serious concern. The 23-year-old is working on a new sinker and has fared well overall since the Pirates optioned him to the minors before the All-Star break.

Waldron entered in the second inning of Monday's loss against Philadelphia and allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 4.2 frames while notching a no-decision.

Rich Hill started for San Diego and was lit up for six runs over 1.1 frames. Waldron took over with one out in the second and ended up pitching through the end of the sixth inning. The right-hander wasn't dominant but did keep the contest from becoming a blowout after the Phillies' fast start. Waldron has worked twice in long relief since being recalled from the minors Aug. 28, totaling 9.2 frames and yielding four runs along with a 7:1 K:BB. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Waldron could be a consideration to replace the struggling veteran Hill in the rotation, though that's merely speculation at this point.

Buehler (elbow) will make his next rehab start Friday for Triple-A Oklahoma City, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Buehler looked sharp in his rehab debut Sunday with OKC, tallying two strikeouts over two perfect innings in what was a 24-pitch outing against the Triple-A affiliate of the Rangers. He's expected to make at least two more starts on the farm -- including Friday -- before possibly stepping in as a rotation replacement for Julio Urias following his weekend arrest on a felony domestic violence charge. Buehler is a little over 12 months removed from Tommy John surgery.

Butto is expected to start for the Mets on Wednesday at Washington, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Butto was called up last week to work in relief, but he'll be pressed into starting duties after Carlos Carrasco suffered a season-ending finger fracture. Butto, 25, owns a career 6.75 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 15:16 K:BB in 18.2 major-league innings.

Carrasco was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a fracture of his right fifth finger and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

Carrasco had been listed as the probable starter for Wednesday's series finale at Washington, but the Mets will now have to pivot after the veteran right-hander fractured the pinky on his throwing hand Sunday in a weight room incident. It'll be a season-ending setback for Carrasco, who finishes with an ugly 6.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 66:38 K:BB across 90 innings (20 starts) with New York. He is scheduled to become a free agent in November.

Stroman (ribs) threw a successful bullpen session Monday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It was his first time throwing off a mound since he was diagnosed with a right rib cage cartilage fracture in mid-August. Stroman still has a lot of hurdles to clear, but he could potentially be an option again for the Cubs' rotation around late September if all continues to go well. His last major-league start was July 31 against the Reds.

Double-A Altoona placed Skenes on the development list Tuesday. "He's checked all of the boxes we aimed for him to check during the 2023 season," the Pirates announced in a press release. "The goal now is to focus on a complete offseason in preparation for his first full professional year in 2024."

Skenes was selected as the No. 1 overall pick out of LSU this past July and allowed four earned runs while tallying 10 strikeouts across his first 6.2 minor-league innings between the rookie-level Florida Complex League, Single-A Bradenton and Double-A Altoona. He should enter 2024 as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

Cabrera joined the Marlins' taxi squad Tuesday and is expected to be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cabrera is set to join a six-man rotation down the stretch while the Marlins look to claim one of the three National League wild-card spots. The 25-year-old pitched to a 2.22 ERA and 30:12 K:BB in 28.1 innings (five starts) with Jacksonville following his Aug. 1 demotion.
