Keller (11-9) yielded eight runs on 12 hits over five innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against Atlanta.

Keller didn't allow a lot of hard contact, but things began to unravel when Atlanta strung together six singles in the third inning. He also gave up eight runs against the Brewers on Aug. 3 but had allowed just eight total runs in his following five starts. His ERA rose to 4.23 with a 191:51 K:BB through 174.2 frames. Keller is projected to face the Nationals at home next week.

Elder (12-4) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over seven innings Friday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Pirates.

The right-hander fired five scoreless innings before serving up a two-run homer to Jack Suwinski in the sixth. Elder's nine punchouts gave him a new season high, and it was his first time with more than five strikeouts since June 22. He's gone 4-0 with a stellar 2.30 ERA over his last five starts, lowering his season ERA to 3.38 through 162.1 frames. Elder is currently lined up for a start in Philadelphia next week.

Dodd will be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Saturday in Atlanta against the Pirates, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Dodd made the Opening Day rotation, but he has posted an ugly 7.40 ERA in five major-league starts (24.1 innings) and a 6.55 ERA in 69.1 innings at Triple-A. The 25-year-old is a risky fantasy streaming option, even versus a Pittsburgh offense that ranks 27th in wRC+ against southpaws.

Cobb (hip) said he expects to return to the rotation Monday against the Guardians, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Cobb has been pitching through a left hip impingement during the second half, but he received a cortisone injection earlier this week that has helped him avoid a stay on the injured list. The veteran right-hander struggled in his last start against the Padres on Sept. 3, but in the game prior to that he worked a complete game and nearly notched a no-hitter against the Reds.

Colorado placed Gomber on the 60-day injured list Friday with lower-back inflammation.

This doesn't sound like an overly serious diagnosis, but Gomber has been battling back issues for a while and the Rockies will go ahead and shut him down for the final three weeks of the 2023 regular season. The 29-year-old left-hander finishes with a 9-9 record, 5.50 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 87:43 K:BB in 27 starts covering 139 innings, but with stark splits -- he had a respectable 3.68 ERA and 1.37 WHIP on the road, and a 7.05 ERA and 1.59 WHIP at Coors Field.

Taillon threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts but did not factor into the decision Friday as the Cubs lost to the Diamondbacks. He allowed one hit and one walk.

Taillon stymied the Diamondbacks and completing his six shutout innings in a tidy 77 pitches while generating 12 swinging strikes, but he got out-dueled by Zac Gallen. Those whiffs led to a 38.9 percent CSW rate on the afternoon for Taillon, well above his 25.8 percent rate on the season coming into this start. It was a welcome turnaround for the right-hander after he posted an ugly 7.86 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 26.1 innings over his five prior starts.

Gallen (15-7) threw nine scoreless innings and struck out nine in Friday's 1-0 win over the Cubs. He allowed three hits and one walk.

After struggling to the tune of a 9.28 ERA over 10.2 innings in his last two outings, Gallen rebounded for a brilliant start at Wrigley Field. He needed only 107 pitches to complete his second career shutout. The 28-year-old is having a career year, posting personal bests in wins (15), innings (187.2) and strikeouts (195) this season. His next start is slated to come on the road against the Mets.

Sanchez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session with Double-A Pensacola on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Sanchez already has several mound sessions under his belt and could finally be nearing a return to live minor-league games. The 25-year-old right-hander hasn't made an appearance at any level since 2020 because of serious shoulder problems.

Colorado signed Marquez (elbow) to a two-year, $20 million contract extension Friday.

This new deal will cover the 2024-2025 seasons, so Marquez is no longer headed into free agency this winter and now carries some financial security into the remaining several months of his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. He underwent the reconstructive elbow procedure in May of this year and is not expected to return to a major-league mound until the second half of next season. The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 4.41 ERA in 1,016 career big-league innings, all with the Rockies. His career ERA away from Coors Field is 3.80.

Gomber (back) will be placed on the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's game in San Francisco, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Gomber has dealt with a nagging back issue lately, and the Rockies have apparently decided to shut him down. The left-hander will be eligible for activation Sept. 22, but it's unclear whether he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation at that time. Reliever Victor Vodnik is taking Gomber's spot on the roster.
