  • John Means SP | KC

Orioles' John Means: Strong start against Dodgers

Means allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out six across 6.1 innings Wednesday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.

Means kept the Dodgers scoreless through five innings, but he stumbled to begin the sixth frame by allowing a leadoff double followed by a two-run home run. Nevertheless, he turned in his fifth consecutive start with two earned runs or fewer after a stretch of poor outings immediately following the All-Star break. For the season, Means now owns a 3.47 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 109 strikeouts across 137.1 innings. He's currently scheduled to take the ball next Monday at Detroit.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Start pushed to Thursday

Boyd's scheduled start Wednesday against the Yankees has been postponed and will be made up in a doubleheader Thursday.

He will start Game 1 of the twin bill while Spencer Turnbull takes the ball for the nightcap, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

  • Domingo German SP | PIT

Yankees' Domingo German: Appearance pushed to Thursday

German will piggyback CC Sabathia in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Wednesday's game was postponed. German has been moved into a long-relief role in an effort to manage his innings and prepare him for his postseason role.

  • Frankie Montas RP | NYM

Athletics' Frankie Montas: Throws 90 pitches Tuesday

Montas (suspension) threw 90 pitches at the A's spring training complex Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

He apparently looked great in Oakland during a recent workout, but it remains to be seen whether he will return as a starter or reliever. Clearly he is building back up to return as a starter if necessary, but the A's already have seven starting pitchers on the active roster. Montas will be eligible to return Sept. 25.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mariners' Tommy Milone: Primary pitcher Thursday

Milone will work as the primary pitcher in Thursday's game against the Reds, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Prospect Justin Dunn will make his big-league debut as the starter but is only expected to pitch a couple innings. This piggyback setup between Dunn and Milone could continue through the end of the regular season.

  • Justin Dunn RP | CHW

    Mariners' Justin Dunn: Starting Thursday

Dunn will start Thursday's game against the Reds and is expected to throw a couple innings, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Tommy Milone will relieve him after a couple of innings, and that piggyback setup could continue through the end of the regular season. This role will make it impossible for Dunn to qualify for a win, and he's not an elite pitching prospect by any means, so his fantasy value will be limited.

  • Justin Dunn RP | CHW

    Mariners' Justin Dunn: Debuting Thursday

Dunn will work in combination with Tommy Milone every fifth day over the rest of the season, meaning he will pitch in Thursday's game against the Reds, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear if Dunn will start or relieve in his debut, but it will essentially be a piggybacking situation. For fantasy purposes, it would be better for him to come in after Milone so that he could potentially qualify for a win. Dunn, who is one of Seattle's top pitching prospects, has a deceptive delivery and a few average-to-above-average pitches. He also logged a career-best 7.1 percent walk rate this year at Double-A. Dunn has thrown 131.2 innings and counting in 2019 and should spend the bulk of 2020 in the big-league rotation.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Emerges healthy from first start

Glasnow's previously sore forearm tolerated a 41-pitch workload in his first start well and he tentatively lines up for his next turn Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Glasnow ultimately only got through two frames on that pitch count due to some modest location issues, but of overriding importance is the fact he's experienced no adverse residual effects. That sets up Glasnow to continue building up his arm, with a report earlier in the week indicating the Rays ideally hope to have him back to a conventional starter's workload by the time the regular season concludes in anticipation of a potential postseason run.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Struggles as opener

Cortes did not factor into the decision against Detroit on Tuesday, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out two.

Cortes was used as the opening pitcher for the first time in his career and had a difficult time making the adjustment, allowing six singles and a walk while needing 46 pitches to get through 2.1 frames. The 24-year-old has not hurled a scoreless outing since Aug. 23, allowing 10 earned runs in 8.2 innings over his last five games.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Rangers' Lance Lynn: Winless streak continues

Lynn allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Tuesday.

Lynn left with the Rangers in good shape, leading 3-1, but Rafael Montero served up a two-run home run in the eighth inning, ending the starter's bid for his first win since Aug. 2. He held a share of the MLB lead in wins (11) at the All-Star break, but he's been victimized by poor run support since (2.83 runs per start). Lynn will seek win number 15 at home against Oakland on Sunday.
