Montas did not factor in the decision against Detroit in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday, throwing three scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Montas went 18 days without pitching in a game due to a shoulder injury, so Oakland was conservative with his workload and held him to just 53 pitches. The right-hander was effective in the short outing, racking up five strikeouts and allowing only two hits. This may have been a showcase to provide evidence of Montas' health for other teams, as the hurler is one of the most likely players to be moved before the Aug. 2 trade deadline. For what it's worth, Montas proclaimed the shoulder to be a non-issue following the game, stating, "No pain at all. Feel like I was ready to go. My arm feels strong," per Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Garcia (8-5) allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings to earn the win in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Garcia was touched up for a two-run home run by Gleyber Torres but was otherwise able to hold the Yankees' offense in check. Garcia got 13 of his 15 outs via groundballs and strikeouts to turn in his second consecutive quality start. Though he's surrendered five earned runs twice in his last seven outings, Garcia has allowed two or fewer earned runs four times in that same span. For the season, the right-hander owns a 3.65 ERA and a 100:27 K:BB across 93.2 frames.

Javier allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out three across five innings in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.

Javier wasn't sharp, as only 57 of his 99 pitches went for strikes. He's now walked at least three batters in each of his last three starts, during which he's allowed nine earned runs across 13.2 frames. Despite the tough stretch, Javier still owns an excellent 3.13 ERA and 115:34 K:BB across 83.1 innings for the campaign.

Montgomery allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight across 6.1 innings in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Montgomery allowed a run in each of his first two innings but settled in to record his second consecutive quality start. After stumbling a bit across two starts June 27 and July 3, Montgomery has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his last four outings -- including Thursday. In that span, he's maintained a 3.13 ERA and a 24:6 K:BB across 23 frames.

German (0-1) allowed five earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two across three innings to take the loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Astros.

German was activated from the injured list prior to the start to make his season debut. He faced a tough test and served up back-to-back homers in the opening frame. German also allowed consecutive run-scoring doubles in the second inning to account for all five runs against him. Despite a poor season debut, German should have the chance to stick in the rotation so long as Luis Severino (shoulder) remains sidelined.

Gray (7-4) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Marlins.

Gray dominated the Marlins, and he allowed only three runners to reach scoring position in the start while also generating 13 swinging strikes on 94 total pitches. Gray has been excellent across his last eight starts, maintaining a 1.81 ERA while punching out 58 across 49.2 innings. That strong stretch has lowered his ERA on the campaign to 3.48 across 95.2 frames.

Bielak was returned to Triple-A Sugar Land following Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Bielak ate up a valuable 3.1 innings in the second game of the doubleheader, though he did allow three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four. He'll remain on the taxi squad, so he could return to the big-league club in short order if an injury strikes the bullpen.

Skubal (7-8) allowed one unearned run on two hits across six innings to earn the win in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Athletics. He walked two and struck out nine.

Skubal started the second half of the season with a bang, and it was reminiscent of how he was rolling in the first few months of the year. Perhaps the extra rest helped the lefty, who's now up to 106.2 innings after tossing a career-high 149.1 innings in 2021. It will be interesting to see what Skubal has left in the tank as the season progresses and he potentially eclipses 150 innings, but the 38-55 Tigers will certainly be cautious with the 25-year-old if he shows signs of wearing down. Skubal is tentatively slated to take the hill again Tuesday against the Padres.

German (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Astros.

The 29-year-old had shoulder issues surface during the offseason and landed on the 60-day IL in mid-March, but he's now poised to make his 2022 debut for New York. German appeared in five games during his rehab assignment, and he last pitched July 15 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and fired six scoreless innings. He threw 65 pitches during that outing, so he should face some workload limitations in his first couple big-league starts of the year. German will fill the rotation spot of Luis Severino, who was placed on the IL with a low-grade lat strain just before the All-Star break.

Springs (lower leg) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Kansas City, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Springs was moved to the IL on July 10 due to right lower leg tightness, but he'll end up spending close to the minimum amount of time on the shelf so long as he completes a bullpen session Thursday or Friday without any renewed discomfort. Before being shelved with the injury, Springs had made a productive early-season transition from the bullpen into the rotation. Over his first 11 starts, Springs has produced a 3.02 ERA while striking out 59 in 53.2 innings.
