Lynch (hand) was activated from the injured list Monday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Lynch needed just one rehab start before being deemed ready to rejoin the big club. He will jump right back into the Royals' rotation and take the ball Monday night against the White Sox, who he shut out over six innings last time he faced them April 26.

McDermott was traded from the Astros to the Orioles on Monday as part of a three-team trade that sent Trey Mancini to Houston and also involved the Rays, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

McDermott has 59 strikeouts over his last 34 innings in the minors, but he also has 26 walks and a 7.68 ERA over that stretch. A 6-foot-3 righty who turns 24 in a few weeks, McDermott has loud stuff, but his struggles at High-A portend that he may fit best in the bullpen long term.

Medina was traded from the Yankees to the Athletics on Monday along with Ken Waldichuk, JP Sears and Cooper Bowman in exchange for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Medina has been a prospect of note for years thanks to elite raw stuff. Unfortunately, his command has never been good enough on a consistent basis for him to be seen as a likely starting pitcher. Medina has just one minor-league option year remaining, so he will likely debut next year out of the big-league bullpen. The 23-year-old righty has a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 81 strikeouts and 40 walks in 72 innings this year in a repeat of Double-A. If his command improves, Medina could be Oakland's closer of the future.

Waldichuk was traded from the Yankees to the Athletics on Monday along with JP Sears, Luis Medina and Cooper Bowman in exchange for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

One of the Yankees' top pitching prospects prior to this trade, Waldichuk is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound southpaw with a full four-pitch mix. He has a 3.59 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 47.2 innings through 11 starts at Triple-A. Waldichuk and Sears now figure prominently in Oakland's long-term rotation plans.

Sears was traded from the Yankees to the Athletics on Monday along with Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina and Cooper Bowman in exchange for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Sears is an interesting starting pitching prospect who will get more of an opportunity in Oakland than he would have in New York. He has a 2.05 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB in 22 innings (seven appearances) in the big leagues this season. Sears is a command/control artist who throws three pitches and relies on spotting his fastball, which he throws roughly 60 percent of the time. He had a 1.67 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 55 strikeouts in 43 innings at Triple-A.

Montas and Lou Trivino were traded from the A's to the Yankees on Monday, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Montas was arguably the top starter still available on the trade market, and he wound up being reeled in by the Yankees. It remains to be seen who will head to Oakland in return.

Hill (knee) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Astros, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Hill had been targeting Tuesday's contest for his potential return from the IL, but the Red Sox will instead have Nathan Eovaldi and Kutter Crawford start the first two games of their series in Houston. Though he'll miss out on a two-start week as a result, Hill should be ready to take the hill for the series finale with the Astros unless he experiences an unexpected setback with his knee within the next two days. If Hill does in fact get the starting nod Wednesday, the veteran southpaw could have a limited pitch count after he covered three innings and tossed 56 pitches in his lone rehab start with Double-A Portland last week.

Cease (11-4) gave up one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win in a 4-1 victory over the Athletics on Sunday.

Cease continued his breakout 2022 campaign by making easy work of the Athletics sub-par lineup. The 26-year-old right-hander's seven strikeouts now gives him 161 on the year, good for second in all of MLB. Cease will carry a superb 2.01 ERA into is next start which is tentatively expected to be a favorable one at Texas.

Detmers registered a no-decision during Sunday's 5-2 loss to Texas, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts in seven innings.

Detmers had his best stuff working Sunday, posting a season-high 12 strikeouts, recording an immaculate inning in the second and notching his second-best game score of the season at 74. The only thing missing was a win, as a defensive miscue let the tying run cross the plate in the fifth and Los Angeles was unable to capitalize on nearly twice as many hits as Texas. The 23-year-old induced an astounding 24 swinging strikes on 105 pitches en route to the 12 strikeouts and concludes an impressive July with a 1.13 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 24 innings across four turns. He'll look to stay rolling next weekend with a road start in Seattle on tap.

Dunning didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Angels, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six innings.

Dunning settled down after permitting single runs in each of the first two frames to keep Los Angeles off the board with the help of two double plays despite surrendering 10 baserunners. The quality start is the 27-year-old's first in his last four turns, though he's issued a total of 11 free passes across 18.1 innings over that stretch, and his 3.63 BB/9 ranks second-worst among 63 qualified starters. Dunning carries a 4.30 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into his next start, scheduled for next weekend against the White Sox.
