The Yankees placed Montas on the bereavement list Wednesday.

Per Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, manager Aaron Boone noted Tuesday that due to a death in his family, Montas had yet to report to the Yankees after he was acquired from the Athletics on Monday. He'll take the next couple of days to tend to the family matter before rejoining the Yankees for their series in St. Louis this weekend. Assuming he's able to throw a bullpen session while he's away from the team, Montas could be ready to make his first start for the Yankees at some point during the three-game series with the Cardinals.

Bello has been scratched from his scheduled start for Wednesday's game against the Astros, with Rich Hill (knee) now in line to get the starting nod for Boston, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Boston reinstated Hill from the 15-day injured list Monday, but the Red Sox didn't immediately make him available to start or pitch out of the bullpen while the team waited for Tuesday's trade deadline. With the veteran southpaw ultimately staying put at the deadline, he'll now slot back into the rotation while Bello heads to the bullpen. The Red Sox still intend to develop Bello as a starter, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's optioned to Triple-A Worcester at some point in the near future so he can resume making regular turns through the WooSox rotation.

Taillon did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Mariners, allowing six runs (five earned) on two hits while striking out six and walking four over 4.2 innings.

Taillon was not efficient Tuesday, throwing 98 pitches (56 for strikes) across 4.2 innings. Despite allowing just two hits, Taillon was tagged for five earned runs thanks in large part to two early home runs. The righty had not allowed more than three runs in a game until a four-run outing June 7, but he has four such games since then, including two games with six earned runs and two with five earned runs. Taillon also has just four quality starts in his last 12 appearances. He will take a 3.96 ERA into his next outing.

Hill (knee) is scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Houston, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Boston activated Hill from the 15-day injured list ahead of Monday's series opener, but manager Alex Cora declined to define what the veteran southpaw's role would look like upon his return. After he wasn't needed out of the bullpen either of the last two days, Hill will end up slotting back into the rotation as a replacement for Brayan Bello, who had previously been listed as Wednesday's starter. Since Hill covered only three innings and 56 pitches in his lone minor-league rehab outing prior to being activated from the IL, he could be capped at around 75 pitches Wednesday, which could make it difficult for him to factor into any decision.

Gilbert did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's game against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking four across 5.1 innings.

Gilbert was not sharp in Tuesday's game, throwing 53 of 89 pitches for strikes. It was the second time this season where Gilbert finished a game with more walks than strikeouts. The young righty has now allowed 16 home runs across 128.1 innings after three balls left the park in his matchup with the Yankees, tying him for seventh-most homers allowed among qualified starters. Despite that, Gilbert still has a 3.09 ERA, a 10-4 record and 10 quality starts this year.

Irvin (6-8) took the loss during Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Angels, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings.

Irvin got off to a rocky start by permitting a leadoff David Fletcher home run and an unearned run as a result of two errors in the second inning, and surrendered a third run on two hits in the fourth inning to fall into a three-run hole. The loss snapped a three-start win streak for the 28-year-old, who's posted a 2.25 ERA across three second-half starts. Irvin's 3.04 ERA on the season ranks 21st in MLB and he's the only pitcher in the top 25 with fewer than eight wins. He's tentatively scheduled to pitch again Sunday at home against the Giants.

Suarez (3-4) earned the win during Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Oakland, allowing one unearned run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings.

Suarez was moved up to start Tuesday's game with the departure of Noah Syndergaard and filled in seamlessly, only letting one run in during his final frame as a result of a passed ball despite failing to record a 1-2-3 inning. The 24-year-old hasn't permitted an earned run over his last two sparts, spanning 10.1 innings, though both have come against inferior competition in Oakland and Kansas City. With a decent 4.55 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 53 strikeouts across 55.1 innings, Suarez has a shot to remain in Los Angeles' rotation.

Lyles (8-8) allowed a run on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Lyles came back to haunt his former team, delivering his first quality start in his last four outings. The only run against him came on a Marcus Semien RBI single in the fifth inning. Lyles evened his record for the first time since May 1, and he's now sporting a 4.40 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 104:41 K:BB through 124.2 innings in 22 starts this year. The right-hander is projected for a home start versus the Blue Jays next week.

Javier (6-7) took the loss during Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Red Sox, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Javier struck out the side in the first inning and faced the minimum through three frames, but was done in by Rafael Devers thereafter as Boston's third baseman knocked an RBI double in the fourth and connected on a solo shot in the sixth to saddle the 25-year-old with his second straight loss. Despite the 0-2 record, Javier has pitched to a solid 3.38 ERA in 16 innings across his last three starts and was able to induce an impressive 15 swinging strikes Tuesday. He tentatively lines up to take the hill again this week Sunday in Cleveland.

Keller (5-12) allowed eight runs on 13 hits an a walk with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the White Sox.

Keller threw 70 of 94 pitches for strikes, but he didn't have enough stuff to deceive the White Sox's hitters. By just about any metric, this was the right-hander's worst start of the year, and also his third straight loss. His ERA ballooned from 4.18 to 4.63, and he's added a 1.38 WHIP and 76:41 K:BB across 113.1 innings in 20 starts this year. Keller will look to get back on track in a projected home start versus the Red Sox this weekend.
