Quantrill did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over 7.1 innings in a 3-2 win over the Yankees. He struck out two.

Quantrill surrendered a solo home run to Jose Trevino and an RBI single to DJ LeMahieu in the third, but other than that, the right-hander was sharp through a season-high 7.1 innings. It was a strong bounce-back performance for Quantrill, who was coming off his worst outing of the season (five earned runs over 3.1 innings versus Colorado). Despite the quality start Monday, he's still struggling with the long ball (four homers allowed over six starts) and isn't striking many batters out (17:9 K:BB through 32.1 innings).

German did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over 8.1 innings during a 3-2 loss to the Guardians. He struck out six.

After a one-out single by Amed Rosario in the first, German retired 11 straight batters before walking Josh Bell to begin the fifth. Following the walk, the right-hander got back on track and recorded 13 straight outs before Steven Kwan singled with one out in the ninth. German, who had thrown 88 pitches (65 strikes), was pulled following the base hit, but Clay Holmes couldn't maintain the shutout and ultimately surrendered the game-tying hit to Josh Naylor. It was the first time this season German took a game into the ninth and fifth time he's recorded at least six strikeouts. His 4.46 ERA still needs work, but his 0.90 WHIP and 39:10 K:BB through 34.1 innings suggests he's on the right track and may have been a victim of some bad luck to start the campaign. German will look to build off his dominating performance during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to occur during a four-game set versus the Rays this coming weekend.

Garcia is scheduled to undergo an MRI after leaving his start Monday against the Giants in the first inning with a right elbow injury, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Garcia's latest outing lasted only eight pitches, as he was in obvious discomfort early on before he was pulled from the contest. The team should have more information to share on the severity of the injury once his MRI results come in.

Urquidy's MRI on Monday revealed inflammation in his right shoulder, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Astros placed Urquidy on the 15-day injured list earlier in the day after he left Sunday's start early with right shoulder discomfort. Manager Dusty Baker stated Monday that the right-hander will be shut down from throwing for "a while," per Lerner. A timetable for Urquidy's return has yet to be established, though it sounds as though he'll need longer than the 15-day minimum.

Garcia was unable to record an out before the training staff was sent out to the mound. The extent of the injury is unclear at this time, though he's likely headed for further evaluation. Brandon Bielak replaced Garcia and will likely be asked to eat up at least a few innings.

Miller will join the Seattle rotation upon being promoted from Double-A Arkansas and is scheduled to make his first start Tuesday in Oakland, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

With Robbie Ray (elbow) done for the season and Easton McGee going on the injured list with a forearm strain after one turn as the Mariners' No. 5 starter, Seattle will turn to the 24-year-old Miller to fill the opening in the rotation. The right-hander is considered the best pitching prospect in the Mariners system, and he's coming off a start for Arkansas in which he allowed just one hit and one run while striking out five over five innings. Because of his inexperience, Miller's performance may have some volatility, but there's plenty of reward that comes with the risk he carries.

Houston recalled Bielak from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

Bielak is the reinforcement for the Astros after Houston placed Jose Urquidy on the 15-day injured list with shoulder discomfort. The right-hander has worked as both a starter and reliever in the minors and majors, but he likely will be a multi-inning bullpen option for Houston while he's on the roster.

The Astros haven't revealed the results of the MRI that Urquidy underwent after he exited his start in Sunday's win over the Phillies after throwing 83 pitches, but the team apparently wasn't convinced that the right-hander would make a full recovery from the shoulder issue in advance of his next turn through the rotation. Thanks to an off day Thursday, the Astros will be able to get by with a four-man rotation until May 9. Right-hander Brandon Bielak was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move and should be able to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Montas (shoulder) may be ready to begin a throwing program soon, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Boone didn't specify when exactly Montas might resume long toss, but the skipper's comments can at least be viewed as positive news for the right-hander, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his labrum in late February. The Yankees likely won't have a timeline for Montas to make his season debut until he's at least reached the point in his throwing program where he's facing hitters.

Paxton (hamstring) will make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester before the Red Sox make a decision about activating him from the 15-day injured list, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Although he's struggled overall on his rehab assignment, Paxton was terrific in his most recent outing Sunday, striking out eight over 5.1 scoreless frames while getting his pitch count up to 90. Paxton has only ever started in the majors, but the Red Sox to this point have not committed to what role he would have with the big club. The big left-hander has made just six starts at the major-league level since 2020 -- none in 2022 -- due to various arm issues and is currently on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. Paxton's pitching schedule currently aligns with 23-year-old right-hander Brayan Bello's, so the Red Sox could easily swap Paxton into the rotation for Bello if the team brass determines that the veteran is a better option.
