  • Caden Dana SP | LAA

    Angels' Caden Dana: Starting Wednesday

The Angels will recall Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Wednesday's game against the Royals in Anaheim, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

With Victor Mederos (shoulder) and Tyler Anderson (oblique) both on the injured list, the Angels will turn to Dana to fill one of the openings in the rotation. The 21-year-old righty hasn't fared well in the majors throughout his young career, allowing 16 earned runs in 16.1 innings while striking out 14 batters and walking 12 over five appearances (three starts) over the past two seasons. He also carries a 5.93 ERA through 82 frames in Triple-A this season, making him a risky streaming option for Wednesday.

  • Joey Wentz SP | ATL

Braves' Joey Wentz: Season-high eight Ks in loss

Wentz (5-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk in four-plus innings. He struck out eight.

The season-high eight strikeouts salvaged what was a poor showing overall by Wentz. Although he generated a strong 13 whiffs Tuesday, the southpaw gave up at least four runs for the second time in his last three outings. Wentz still has a respectable 3.88 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB over 48.2 innings since joining Atlanta, though he's tentatively scheduled for another tough matchup against these same Cubs early next week.

  • Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Slated to open Wednesday's game

Bernardino will serve as the Red Sox's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Bernardino is currently enjoying the best season of his MLB career, having submitted a 3.14 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through 48.2 innings. Though the lefty will be picking up his third start of the season, he's unlikely to work more than an inning or two before exiting the contest. Dustin May is on track to pitch in bulk relief behind Bernardino.

  • Alek Jacob RP | SD

Padres' Alek Jacob: Returns to San Diego

The Padres recalled Jacob from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Jacob was sent down to Triple-A at the end of August after throwing 4.2 shutout innings in three appearances, and he'll now rejoin the big-league bullpen following Jason Adam's (quad) move to the injured list. Although his most recent showing in the majors was successful, Jacob's 5.40 ERA through 30 innings will likely limit him to low-leverage work.

  • Jason Adam RP | SD

Padres' Jason Adam: Placed on IL

The Padres placed Adam (quad) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Adam was diagnosed with a ruptured tendon in his left quadriceps after being carted off the field during Monday's game against Baltimore. Although the Padres haven't offered an official timeline, the 34-year-old's injury will likely end his season. Alek Jacob was recalled from Triple-A to help replenish San Diego's bullpen depth.

  • Drew Sommers RP | DET

Tigers' Drew Sommers: Relegated to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Since making his MLB debut Aug. 22, Sommers has given up six earned runs in just three innings of work. His poor performance will ultimately buy him a ticket back to the minors; meanwhile, the Tigers will bring up Bailey Horn from Toledo to round out their bullpen.

  • Bailey Horn RP | DET

Tigers' Bailey Horn: Recalled to Detroit

The Tigers recalled Horn from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Horn has given up one earned run in six innings over his five appearances with the Tigers this season. He'll now return to Detroit after a two-week stay in the minors to take the place of Drew Sommers, who was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.

  • Juan Burgos RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Juan Burgos: Sent down to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Burgos (forearm) to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Burgos was pulled from Monday's game after taking a comebacker off his right forearm in the ninth inning. X-rays on his forearm came back negative after the game, but he'll now head down to the minors and rehab his injury. Taylor Rashi was recalled from Reno to fill the open bullpen spot.

  • Taylor Rashi RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Taylor Rashi: Back in Arizona

The Diamondbacks recalled Rashi from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Rashi was sent down to Triple-A on Friday after securing a three-inning save during his MLB debut, but he'll now return to the big leagues to give Arizona another fresh bullpen arm to work with. Juan Burgos (forearm) was optioned to Reno in a corresponding move.

  • Corbin Martin RP | BAL

Orioles' Corbin Martin: Cut loose from 40-man

The Orioles designated Martin for assignment Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Martin appeared in 10 games in August, surrendering 14 total runs on 19 hits and five walks across 10.2 innings. He is getting cut loose from the Orioles along with Elvin Rodriguez as Baltimore reinstates both Tyler Wells (elbow) and Jorge Mateo (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list.
