The Nationals selected Barnes' contract from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Barnes nearly won a spot with a strong spring and had tossed eight scoreless innings with a 10:2 K:BB at Rochester to earn a promotion. The 34-year-old veteran will operate in middle relief.

The Nationals placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 21, with the flu, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

There's been a bug going around the Nationals' clubhouse and Garcia got it bad enough to force an IL stint. He'll be eligible to return May 7 and seems likely to be back at that time.

The Reds optioned Legumina to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Legumina was up for just one day and yielded two runs over two innings of work in an appearance Monday. He's clearing out to make room for Sam Moll's return from the injured list.

The Reds activated Moll (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Moll has been out all season with a left shoulder issue and had experienced a minor setback earlier this month, but he's been cleared to rejoin the Reds' bullpen after allowing six runs with a 6:2 K:BB over 7.1 rehab innings. The southpaw earned high-leverage work with the Reds last season, but he'll probably be eased into such situations initially this year.

The Rangers assigned Sborz (shoulder) to Double-A Frisco on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.

The right-hander has been on the shelf with a rotator cuff strain since April 7, and he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment since it's been a relatively brief absence. Sborz made three appearances prior to the injury and struck out three without allowing a run over 2.2 innings.

The Diamondbacks claimed Jacques off waivers from the Red Sox on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Reno, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports.

Jacques had been designated for assignment after making one appearance this season for Boston. The left-hander holds a career 5.08 ERA, 22:10 K:BB and 63 percent groundball rate over 28.1 innings at the major-league level.

Erceg (1-1) earned the win against the Yankees on Monday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a walk and recorded a strikeout.

Erceg took the baton from starter JP Sears, who stymied his former Yankees squad over six shutout, three-hit innings. Erceg didn't miss a beat, locating 17 of his 26 pitches for strikes and serving as a bridge to a rare save opportunity for Mason Miller in the ninth inning. The right-hander now has five consecutive scoreless appearances, a span during which he's fired six scoreless frames while recording six strikeouts.

Helsley (2-2) earned the win Monday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing one hit and striking out one without walking a batter in a scoreless inning.

Helsley has allowed just one unearned run over his last six appearances, though that led to a loss. He was able to back into the win Monday, keeping the game tied in the top of the ninth inning before Nolan Gorman hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame. Through 12 appearances, Helsley has a 2.25 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB while converting seven of his eight save chances.

Simpson will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the ulnar nerve in his left elbow, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

It's expected to be around three months before Simpson will be ready to pitch in games again, so this will put him out at least until after the All-Star break. The southpaw initially suffered the injury during spring training and made an unsuccessful attempt at resting and rehabbing the injury before eventually opting for surgery.

The Cubs will recall Wesneski from Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday's game versus the Astros, Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register reports.

He'll join Matt Mervis in being added to the big-league roster. There's no word at this point what the corresponding moves will be, but Wesneski can't be recalled unless he's replacing an injured player. The right-hander tossed four scoreless innings in an extended relief outing last week in Arizona, picking up a win in the process.
